No Public Option? Then NO Mandate

Simulposted at Daily Kos

If it has not become painfully obvious to you that the Insurance Companies and the Sickness Care Industry is writing the “Health” Care legislation in Congress, you seriously need to wake up.

They are spending millions of dollars to do so. And what are they spending it on? Politicians.

Politicians and ads to sway public opinion.

This brings us toi the key question: What do they want?

They want a Health Care Bill that mandates, by law, that every American HAS to, is forced to, must, buy insurance……FROM THEM.

By Law.

With no alternative.

Their goal is to get 46 million new forced ‘customers.’

Let me say that one more time.

The Insurance companies want “reform” that will force every American to buy their product.

Their shoddy, inefficient, BAD product that doesn’t work.

Their product that costs more than any other insurance in the world….and that delivers the only the 37th best Health Care in the world.

The product that they want to force you, by law, to have to buy.

Without an alternative, without a Public Option available to compete with them, and to illustrate JUST how bad their ‘product’….in other words your health ….really is, this is just a boondoggle to benefit the Insurance Companies.

Without the Public Option to provide competition…and relief for increasing number of “low income” Americans, Congress hands the Insurance Companies exactly what they want.

And of course tyhe next step will be taking any ‘reform’ out of the bill that makes it affordable, especially to “low income” Americans.

The “Lower” Class and Lower Middle Class.

Not that they, or apparently Congress, gives a damn about the Lower and Lower Middle Class….they work for the Insurance Companies now, not us. Other than a few stalwarts, it has become painfully obvious whose side Congress is on on the Class War that is raging in America.

YOUR elected reperesentatives are more than willing, apparently, and unsurprisingly considering how much money the Insurance Companies are paying to buy your representatives votes….. to hand them this windfall on a silver platter.

YOUR elected reperesentatives areare working towards a “compromise” a compromise that will just happen to be a windfall for the Insurance Companies on the backs of those who can afford it least.

Time to face facts, America. And President Obama. NO Republican is going to vote for ANY bill that is not some sort of giveaway to the Insurance Companies.

NO Republican is going to vote for anything that their Insurance Company masters don’t want. IF you want real Health care Reform, the defining fight of your Presidency, you are going to have to force it through Congress with NO (or one) Republican vote. You are going to have to make deals with the recalcitrant Dems in the Senate, Landreiu and Nelson and the rest, yes.

But as long as you are going to have to do that anyway, for the sake of the American Public, at least force through a decent bill, a bill with the Public Option in place.

Or…..Eliminate Mandates.

Otherwise you and the Dems are just handing another VERY profitable victory to the Insurance Companies, and screwing ALL of us.

CALL the White House at 202-456-1111 and at 202-456-1414 and DEMAND a Public Option.

  2. Jane Hamsher (firedoglake) just did a good job on msnbc w Andrea Mitchell, a few minutes ago. And Howard Dean is all over the place. where are the rest of Our Reps? the Vineyard? never mind.

well I guess this whole little scenario, over the next 2 or 3 months, should give us a better idea of how Obama rolls … is this a head fake? is he saying stupid shit to rile us up and generate the public outcry he needs (thinks he needs) to push this through?

anyway, public outcry, I better go call now. And Rusty has RIGHTFULLY been advocating that we also get busy with LTE”s and more.

…on this, they will find that those of us barely getting from paycheck to paycheck as it is simply do not have any money to pay the new “Insurance Tax” they’ll be mandating. Then a whole lot of us will be accused of participating in a direct-action protest. Including a lot of working class Republicans who get their marching orders from Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin. Should be loads of fun to watch!

Oh… and I don’t buy for a second that new regulations on insurers will actually cause them to stop excluding people or refusing to pay for health care. Their entire business model depends on that. Sure, the government will subsidize those pre-existing conditions so the insurers won’t lose any money on them, but they’ll still routinely deny claims. Even if they eventually are forced to pay, it’ll take months at least, and in the meantime they’ve put the money aside to earn interest and/or dividends, thus swelling their profit coffers by millions. It’s a kiting scheme, and they don’t plan to change anything regardless of regulations.

  3. Can you imagine Congress passing a mandate that every American MUST buy Old-Age, Survivors, and Disability Insurance from private companies?

  4. But no time now.  go for it!

  5. Government and corporate theft under Obama is going to a whole new level.  Like Bush with torture and trying to make it legal, Obama is doing this right out in the open.

  6. wall street fiasco, they use or cook up, any crisis that they can create to get more and more money and power for the real ‘owners’. I am being extremely pessimistic these days, I feel that it is irrelevant what the people who ‘mandated’ change want or need. We got bamboozled and not by the Republicans they are the new ‘terrorist’ the ones we have to fear.

I’ll call but it falls on deaf ears, in fact ears that are hostile and want the non believers in their bamboozle to either STFU or go away. Their is no way that this is not a done deal, the show they are all, by-partisanly putting on is pretty lame.

Today I feel sadly that the only change were going to get are the ones that will come when the reality hits home so hard that the pols and the real rulers finally have to face people who have had enough and realize who and what has brought them to this. Insult to injury is how I feel and it seems a hopeless waste of effort because they think they and their agenda are inevitable and a done deal.

The pump don’t work cause the vandals stole the handle. I think we just have to wait until what the too big does when gravity exerts it’s pull, fall.

  7. You want health care reform? Fine.  How does this fucking shit suit you?

Amazing, turning a progressive dream into the ultimate corporate triumph….products that you are required by law to buy.

  8. The Massachusetts model of mandatory junk insurance.

Far as now work, you are right, there is no work.

  9. has a wonderful idea, expressed in his daily newsletter to subscribers.  I intend to post it as a diary tonight.  It is excellent.

There’s just so little time today, and so much work to do.  So I post this much for any who wish to search to find it before I get back—SOON!

  10. oy. very good.

maybe Ill try to post it whenever it shows up youtube.

here’s the next best thing. dang.

In fact, the Democrats had in reality already managed to kill the public option by watering it down to the point of near-meaninglessness. But the notion that our president not only does not have any use anymore for a public option, but in fact “will be satisfied” if there is merely “choice and competition” in the market is, well, disgusting.

I’ll say this for George Bush: you’d never have caught him frantically negotiating against himself to take the meat out of a signature legislative initiative just because his approval ratings had a bad summer. Can you imagine Bush and Karl Rove allowing themselves to be paraded through Washington on a leash by some dimwit Republican Senator of a state with six people in it the way the Obama White House this summer is allowing Max Baucus (favorite son of the mighty state of Montana) to frog-march them to a one-term presidency?

  11. Increasing numbers of Drs. refusing to accept insurance: (emphasis mine)

Many physicians, fed up with patient overload and filing claims, are minimizing insurance-based coverage and offering round-the-clock service for a retainer.

That’s why a growing number of primary care physicians are adopting a direct fee-for-service or “retainer-based” model of care that minimizes acceptance of insurance. Except for lab tests and other special services, your insurance plan is no good with them…

In a retainer practice, doctors charge patients an annual fee ranging from $1,500 to as high as over $10,000 for round-the-clock access to physicians, sometimes including house calls.

That’s just great–the insurance companies are paying off Congress critters to force everyone to buy insurance that doctors are planning to refuse to accept.  Capitalism–and alleged democracy–ain’t it great?

  12. that perhaps we are starting to make an impact:

Wife just told me that the White House is now considering the “nuclear option” in reference to health care. She said this comes via Anderson Cooper.

I can’t find a specific written quote, but I think that it was aired on CNN.
