The Flat Earthers have a Right to their Opinions, But That does NOT make them Right!

(11 am. – promoted by ek hornbeck)

If you heard this on the TV, would you sit and think, interesting Opinions?

“The facts are simple,” says Charles K. Johnson, president of the International Flat Earth Research Society. “The earth is flat.

Nobody knows anything about the true shape of the world,” he contends. “The known, inhabited world is flat.

[…]

the stars are about as far as San Francisco is from Boston.”

As shown in a map published by Johnson, the known world is as circular and as flat as a phonograph record. The North Pole is at the center.

Or if you heard this loudly stated Opinion, would you think, “Well, They have a Right to their Opinions”

Mr. Johnson, who called himself the last iconoclast, regarded scientists as witch doctors pulling off a gigantic hoax so as to replace religion with science. He based his own ideas on the Old Testament references to a flat earth

Not exactly a ground swell, but more that you might expect. More than just another Lunatic Fringe.

Hmmm? kind of sounds like that secret-handshake Club, otherwise known as the GOP Obstructionists!

(Did YOU get your GOP Talking Points, Today?)

You know …

“Reasonable, intelligent people have always recognized that the earth is flat.”

Hmmm? kind of sounds like that insider Club, otherwise known the Sarah Palin Fan Club!

The International Flat Earth Society is the oldest continuous Society existing on the world today.

[…]

Our Society of Zetetics have existed for at least 6,000 years, the extent of recorded history.

[…]

The whole point of the Copernican theory is to get rid of Jesus by saying there is no up and no down,” declares Johnson. “The spinning ball thing just makes the whole Bible a big joke.”

Not the Bible but Johnson’s own common sense allowed him to see through the globe myth while he was still in grade school. He contends that sensible people all over the world, not just Bible believers, realize that the earth really is flat.

Yes everyone HAS a right to their Opinions, BUT just having an Opinion, DOES NOT make that Person Right! (nor worthy of much your time or attention either!)

You see, there is this little problem known as “the Facts”, that always seems to get in the way of most of those strongly-held Opinions. … Of Course Facts are often in short-supply, in this current Media Age of Spin and Controversy.

“The Facts” may indeed be an Endangered Species — in today’s Corporate Media landscape. One thing you can be sure of, is that “The Facts” WON’T get in the way of airing any Outrageous, strongly-held Opinions, that latest air-head might think, say, or SHOUT!

SOOOO, How many ways can YOU think of, that shows how opiniated Right Wingers, act just like those dogmatic Flat Earthers?

Oh, Let me count some of the ways:

1) Fox News’ Hannity interviewing Mark Levin

“If something terrible happens at one of these town hall meetings, I think the president in part can be held accountable.”

http://mediamatters.org/mmtv/2…

2) Rush Limbaugh:

“Adolf Hitler, like Barack Obama, also ruled by dictate”

http://mediamatters.org/mmtv/2…

3) Sean Hannity on birthers:

“All they wanted to do was say, ‘Where’s the birth certificate?’  That’s all they were asking”

http://mediamatters.org/mmtv/2…

4) Glenn Beck:

“You laugh all the way to the death panels”

http://mediamatters.org/mmtv/2…

And even GOP Senators want to get into the Earther Act — Budget Plan? yeah sure the Republicans have an alternative Budget Plan — just give us a few mintue to scribble something down. It really doesn’t matter that it would never balance in the real world, does it — because afterall Earthers believe in letting “someone else” deal with all those messy details, later on down the road:

5) GOP Budget Proposal: Massive Tax Cut For Wealthy

March 26, 2009

“Two nights ago, the president said, ‘We haven’t seen a budget yet out of Republicans.’ Well, it’s just not true, because here it is, Mr. President,” said House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio), waving a blue document in the air.

Under the Republican plan, the top marginal tax rate would be slashed from 35 to 25 percent, facilitating a dramatic transfer of wealth up the economic scale. Anyone making more than a $100,000 would pay the top rate; those under would pay 10 percent.

And when it comes to strongly-held Opinions about Science, we really don’t need to listen to what 99% of Real Scientists have to say about important problems like Global Climate Change, Do We?

At least Glenn Beck doesn’t think so,

Not as long as he can find some “credible expert”, who has strongly-held Opinions, from the other 00.5% of the Opposing points of view:

6) Glenn Beck: Global Warming greatest scam in history

http://mediamatters.org/mmtv/2…

Afterall, as the Earther president Charles Johnson, has put it:

scientists [are] witch doctors pulling off a gigantic hoax so as to replace religion with science.

I’m sure Glenn Beck would agree that Science is a ruse, aren’t you?

Everything’s Debatable, right?

All that matters is creating a big enough controversy, to muddy the media waters.

It seems “The Facts” have been successfully banish, to the by-gone age, also known as the Last Century.

Humankind tried to reach its true potential, and apparently failed. GAME OVER!

All that matters now in this new Age of Opinion, is HAVING ONE!

that and being able to state it strongly and as LOUDLY as possible — the FACTS BE DAMNED!

… and while you’re at it, to be able to create as much Ruckus as possible, so that the Media-weavers will pay attention to you and YOUR Message, whether its fact-based or not.

No one’s has time for Facts and real Debate anymore —

Afterall when we all have SO MANY Talking Points and Distraction, to spin, and to sell.

Science? … Hmmmm Science … I remember when having Scientific Facts on your side, lent Credibility, in a big way.

I miss those days  … And I want THAT County BACK!

By undermining old certainties all certainties became suspect. By undermining authority all authorities became unreliable. Science and reason lack a public forum. The education system in this country is a fraud and should probably be scrapped–we need to educate people in reason and to deprogram from TV idiocy that is feeding what you describe. Once upon a time there were people in the ruling class that cared about their society and held us to some minimal rule by reason. Now they don’t give a shit so they are only interested in directly manipulating the public. The more stupid the public the more money they make.

Like a glowing disk or a giant flashlight circling us in the sky? Or maybe it just sits in one place while we spin like a record on a turntable?

But how come when it shines over the edge of the flat world it isn’t daytime all over the world all at the same time?
