Olympic Alternatives IV

You thought I was not serious?

I’m dead serious.  The only way to effect change is through sacrifice (changing your habits) and protest (telling people what you think, publicly).

Plenty of other stuff out on the Hypnotoad.  Just look-

The Hypnotoad.

8 pm – 10 pm update.

All Prime Time update.

Midnight to 3 am update.

Why are you update.

Here’s a list of things (not comprehensive) I think more worthy of your eyeballs.

Instead of Women’s Curling on USA

8:00 SciFi Sanctuary 4:00
9:00 Spike CSI 8:00
10:00 Oxygen Living Single 5:00
12:00 Discovery American Loggers 2:00
12:00 AMC Volcano 2:30
12:00 ABC Family Full House 1:00
12:00 History Lock ‘n Load 1:00
12:00 Lifetime Wife Swap 3:00
12:00 MTV True Life 2:00
12:00 TNT Las Vegas 2:00
12:00 TV Land Hogan’s Heros 1:00
12:30 TCM Love Me Or Leave Me 2:30
1:00 Bravo Shear Genius 4:00
1:00 Comedy Daily Show, Colbert Report 2:00
1:00 TVLand Gunsmoke 2:00
2:00 ABC Family Sabrina the Teenage Witch 3:00
2:00 History Dogfights 5:00
2:00 TNT Cold Case 4:00
2:00 TV Land Bonanza 5:00
2:30 AMC Dante’s Peak 5:00
2:30 TCM Forbidden Planet 4:30

The longest marathon today is Discovery’s American Loggers and it actually starts off with Extreme Ice Logging at 11 am.

Sorry fans, if you want to watch Cash Cab, you’ve already missed it.

Sanctuary is Amanda Tapping’s new show and as some of my readers may know I’m a huge fan.  The concept with this is she’s a part Vampire blooded mutant (one of 5) who runs a world wide network protecting and controling mutants.

It’s much better than it sounds.

Forbidden Planet is of course the classic Sci Fi adaptation of The Tempest and marks the first screen appearance of Robby the Robot.

Instead of Men’s Hockey on MSNBC or Women’s Cross Country and Figure Skating Recap on NBC

3:00 A&E CSI 7:00
3:00 ABC Family Full House 4:00
3:00 Lifetime Desperate Housewives 6:00

4:00 USA Law & Order 6:00
4:00 VH-1 Celebrity Fit Club Boot Camp 5:00
4:30 TCM The Blackboard Jungle 6:30

In this block you have dueling Housewives and more Law & Order than you can shake a stick at.

Though I can’t imagine why you would want to unless you are thoroughly bored by Men’s Hockey and Figure Skating which it is very easy to be.

I will be cranking together Afternoon Edition during this time, so I won’t hardly notice.

Instead of Men’s Curling on CNBC

5:00 AMC The Fugitive 8:00

7:00 Travel Man v. Food 9:00
7:00 Toon Johnny Test 7:30
7:30 Toon Batman: The Brave & The Bold 8:00

It’s important to note that this is an entirely Tweetyless day on MSNBC.

Hurray!

Like Armando I’m a big fan of Joss Whedon’s short lived series Firefly.  Serenity is the theatrical film release of the final episode and one of the most satisfying endings I have ever seen (much better than Battlestar Galactica for instance).

I have to sing the song for you.

Ballad of Serenity

Take my love, take my land

Take me where I cannot stand

I don’t care, I’m still free

You can’t take the sky from me

Take me out to the black

Tell them I ain’t comin’ back

Burn the land and boil the sea

You can’t take the sky from me

There’s no place I can be

Since I found Serenity

You can’t take the sky from me

TheMomCat was mentioning the other day that she was going to rent the Matrix movies.  You can see the last 2 installments today for free.

What I like about Batman: The Brave & The Bold is that you get to see the B-List DC characters, that’s what was great about the comic book too.

Instead of Men’s Hockey (yawn) on CNBC and Ice Dancing (the hardest discipline in Figure Skating), Women’s Skeleton, Men’s Super G, and Ski Jumping on NBC

8:00 AMC Troy 11:30

9:00 TV Land The Brady Bunch Movie 11:00
9:00 USA Good Luck Chuck 11:00
9:00 FX Rush Hour 11:00

Caprica is a new episode.  As I said before, I’m not quite sure how I feel about it.

Instead of Women’s Curling on CNBC

10:00 Bravo Matrix Revolutions 1:00

Agent Smith: Why, Mr. Anderson? Why do you do it? Why get up? Why keep fighting? Do you believe you’re fighting for something? For more than your survival? Can you tell me what it is? Do you even know? Is it freedom? Or truth? Perhaps peace? Yes? No? Could it be for love? Illusions, Mr. Anderson. Vagaries of perception. The temporary constructs of a feeble human intellect trying desperately to justify an existence that is without meaning or purpose. And all of them as artificial as the Matrix itself, although only a human mind could invent something as insipid as love. You must be able to see it, Mr. Anderson. You must know it by now. You can’t win. It’s pointless to keep fighting. Why, Mr. Anderson? Why? Why do you persist?

Neo: Because I choose to.

Instead of Men’s Hockey on MSNBC or Medal Ceremonies and Recap on NBC

2:30 AMC Return to House on Haunted Hill 4:30
2:30 TMC The Blue Dahlia 4:00

I’ll probably be watching Warehouse 13 and Stargate, but “The Brit Block” of The Office, Look Around You, The Mighty Boosh, and Darth Marenghi’s Dark Place will appeal to those who like British humor.  I especially recommend Look Around You, The Office is kind of sad actually.

Broderick Crawford, Lon Chaney Jr.

This part still under construction, expect updates.

All of them far more worth your eyeballs than NBC and it’s horrible coverage.

This isn’t even political, except for the lesson in activism.

Am I serious?

Dead serious.

Oh Rose, have something to eat.

Two hundred thousand years in the future he’s dying, and there’s nothing I can do.

Well, like you said, two hundred thousand years, it’s way off!

But it’s not!  It’s now.  That fight is happening right now!  And he’s fighting for us, for the whole planet, and I’m just sitting here eating chips!

Listen to me!  God knows I have hated that man, but right now I love him, and do you know why?  Cause he did the right thing, he sent you back to me!

But what do I do every day, Mum?  What do I do?  Get up, catch the bus, go to work, come back home, eat chips and go to bed, is that it?!

It’s what the rest of us do.

But I can’t!

Why, cause you’re better than us??

NO, I didn’t mean that!  I just…  But it was.  It was a better life!

And I don’t mean all the travelling, and seeing aliens and spaceships and things, that don’t matter.

The Doctor showed me a better way of living your life.  You know, he showed you too!

That you don’t just give up!  You don’t just let things happen!

You make a stand, you say no, you have the guts to do what’s right when everyone else just runs away.

I want to make it very clear that you can use this thread to talk about the Olympics all you like.

I will be watching something else.

And you’re perfectly free to post your own essay, I might even promote it.

But to those who say that it doesn’t matter, that now that NBC has its advertisers ratings mean nothing, you couldn’t be more wrong.  They have guaranteed those advertisers a certain number of eyeballs and if NBC doesn’t make their numbers they have to give their sponsors free advertising until they do.

You have power.  You just have to have the willpower to use it.

  1. Darth Vader on Curling-

Give yourself to the Dark Side. It is the only way you can save your friends. Yes, your thoughts betray you. Your feelings for them are strong. Especially for… sister. So, you have a twin sister. Your feelings have now betrayed her, too. Obi-Wan was wise to hide her from me. Now his failure is complete. If you will not turn to the Dark Side… then perhaps she will…

  3. …. so we can watch the Olympics, we don’t care that you’re a hypocritical, egotistical horndog with a taste for call girls because no matter how contrite you look today you’re only contrite for the continued endorsements.  Jerk.

  4. My brother informs me they’ve replaced the US Skip!
