What Liberal Media?

If you thought that MSNBC was a liberal media outlet, you need to watch it more carefully. Just watch Joe Scarborough in the morning or Chuck Todd in the afternoon. The higher up at the news division has cut a deal with Bloomberg Media to rerun a program that most people have never watched hosted by two right wing beltway hacks.

“With All Due Respect,” Bloomberg Media’s flagship political television show, will also be shown on MSNBC, weeknights at 6 p.m., after a deal between the two.

The show, featuring the political journalists John Heilemann and Mark Halperin, will continue to be shown on Bloomberg at 5 p.m. The deal, which takes effect in January, follows recent efforts at MSNBC and Bloomberg Media to revamp their offerings. [..]

In response to questions about recent criticism of the show, Mr. Smith said the company was “proud of the show.” He added, “I think there has been a lot of scuttlebutt about people not liking the show, but our owner has gone definitively public, and has put a lot of this gossip to rest,” referring to a statement of support from Michael R. Bloomberg, founder of Bloomberg L.P. and former mayor of New York.

Mr. Smith also noted that the show had been expanded to an hour from 30 minutes.

As Cenk Uygur, the host of The Young Turks and former MSNBC commentator, notes the “liberal media” is actually pretty conservative.

“Appearing on NBC’s Today Monday morning, Bloomberg Politics host (and kinda-MSNBC host) Mark Halperin gave PresidentBarack Obama low marks for his Oval Office speech on terrorism Sunday, calling it ultimately bad for the country.

“Are you surprised that in this speech he didn’t offer anything new in terms of strategy or policy, that it was basically stay the course?” hostMatt Lauer asked.

“I’m surprised by that. I’m also surprised that he didn’t do a good enough job — or maybe any job — of reaching out to the Republicans,” Halperin said.

“This is the time when we need national unity; we’re in the middle of a presidential campaign, he’s leaving office in little over a year. The reaction from Republicans… uniformly bad, not just the presidential candidates but the Capitol Hill leaders,” he continued.

In the end, Halperin wasn’t a fan of the speech: “I think nothing new, no sense of bipartisanship: bad for the country.””*

Yesterday, after some discussion about Donald Trumps latest fascist rant calling for the banning of all Muslims from the United States, Chris Matthews, host of MSNBC’s “Hardball,” cuts to The Donald’s rally in South Carolina, where a hall full or white racists stood up and cheered him. Tell me again about the liberal media.
