Mexico has raised its swine flu death toll from 29 to 42.
Health Minister Jose Angel Cordova says the number of patients with confirmed infections has risen from 913 to 1,070.
Meantime, The World Health Organisation’s flu chief Keiji Fukuda says its global tally of confirmed cases of swine flu has risen to 1,490 as a result of most of the new confirmations came from Mexico.
He provided reporters in Geneva with no immediate breakdown of the cases and fatality figures.
Monday’s swine flu tally by WHO had been 1,085 cases, with 26 deaths.
WHO lags behind the numbers reported by countries since it only updates its tally after receiving formal, written notification from governments.
44 people have now died from the virus, including two people in the US.
