No More Excuses

I often compare politicians to weathervanes, with political pressures of various kinds and degrees as the winds that turn them.

But there is an interesting phenomenon to be observed with our national weathervanes. They only seem to turn to the right. Just as Obama said of McCain during the election, it must be a problem with their bearings. But whatever it is, it is definitely a problem. Perhaps the problem has to do with what kind of wind is blowing them.

Senator Dianne Feinstein recently came right out and said it:

Now Feinstein has hit back at the criticism from the left in an article about lefty groups targeting Dems for waffling on key components of health care reform:

"I do not think this is helpful. It doesn't move me one whit," she said. "They are spending a lot of money on something that is not productive."

She will not listen to the wind blowing from the Left.

It is apparent that right now, they are not being blown by the Will of The People.

It is apparent that right now, they are being blown by industry lobbyists.

And obviously, by definition, industry lobbyists are trained professionals when it comes to blowing politicians.

Even if we Lowly Citizens did have the access to the politicians that the lobbyists buy, we could not blow politicians as well they, with their experience and training and exotic tools of the trade. They have been in the business of blowing politicians for years, They know just how to stroke their....egos, and they obvious have a firm grip....on their work.

And as we all know, it is hard to get the attention of someone who is being so expertly blown. Something explosive will have to happen, methinks, before We The People have a chance to get their attention. Or maybe it is just the fact that we as an allegedly Free People are just uncomfortable kneeling before our employees in supplication, unlike the paid professionals in DC.

But The People HAVE spoken.

Along with the canard of "We don't have the votes," one of the favorite EXCUSES of the weathervane politicians is that The People 'get to lobby through elections.' While the lobbyists get to blow the pols every day... We The People only get to inform our politicians of the Will of the People every two years, our ONLY input, the ONLY pressure we get to apply, according to the pols who are being blown by the lobbyists daily, is through elections.

Well hey guys, we just HAD an election, and guess what? We The People SPOKE.

The Old Way doesn't work, We want Change.

Thje Republican Way doesn't work, We want Change.

The Way you are doing business....getting blown by lobbyists and ignoring your employers doesn't work for us anymore.

And if you keep ignoring the pressure from We The People, from your employers, We The People will fire you.

The lobbyists may control the money for your campaigns, but if you recall that money is only used for one thing....to buy our votes....during elections....

Which we just had....and used to send you a message.

And which are coming up again awfully damn soon.

So pull out of that meeting with the lobbyist and take a minute and think.

All the money and strokes they give you won't get you jackshit when you are voted out of office.

All it will get you is a lobbyist job.

And then YOU will be the one on your knees.

No More Excuses.

Give We The People what we want, what we elected you to give us, or we WILL fire you....and you will spend the rest of your careers not being the ones being blown, but being the ones doing the blowing.

The People have Spoken. Clearly. You now have 60 votes.

No More Excuses.

Good one, Buhdy! (4.00 / 3)
We need to march on this one. I'd say a 250,000+ crowd in the Mall would wake them up. Maybe some tens of thousands in Boston Common, Union Sq , the Village or Central Park, Golden Gate, Chicago, Detroit, Twin Cities, Seattle,... Where have all the flowers gone?

busy, managed to just barely catch Helen Thomas.

Nowhere near finished in her quotes to CNS, Helen Thomas railed on the administration, spewing "What the hell do they think we are, puppets? They're supposed to stay out of our business. They are our public servants. We pay them."

Harry Ried Still offers Nothing But Excuses... (4.00 / 11)
... In a revealing but clueless statement Harry Reid said:

We have 60 votes on paper," Senator Harry Reid, the majority leader, said Wednesday in an interview. "But we cannot bulldoze anybody";   it doesn't work that way. My caucus doesn't allow it. And we have a very diverse group of senators philosophically. I am not this morning suddenly flexing my muscles."

What Harry Reid, overpaid and underperforming Senate "Majority 'Leader'" is saying is that he's totally, irrevocably and without a doubt one of the least competent and one of, if not THE weakest Majority "Leaders" ever to be in that position.

I continue to be astonished and disgusted that the Democrats would allow this impotent wimp to continue to masquerade as a "Leader" of his own Senate seat, much less as the leader of the entire Dem caucus.  So, "give 'em hell,   heck A Seriously Mild Rebuke" Harry--Isn't it your job to twist some arms, and to "bulldoze" anyone necessary to get legislation passed, especially when it is the will of the people that it get done?

Do we really want to close the DC brothel? (4.00 / 9)
If we REALLY want to close the Washington brothel, that currently "allows" & "encourages" our elected politicians to sell themselves to their CORPORATE "JOHNS", then we need to pass PUBLIC Campaign Finance reform NOW! No Money - No BROTHEL! Any other ideas?

Very cleverly put, exoevolution! (4.00 / 5)
IF we really wanted a fair government, fair elections, etc., we would set a monetary limit on contributions for electees, president, congress, senate.  Set a limit on air time (free, would be best), wherein each candidate would be given the same amount of time to be heard on the air in whatever media form.  Same idea with lobbyists -- a dollar limit on each lobbyist.  Moreover, politicians should not receive monies directly from lobbyists period -- in my opinion, this represents a clear conflict of interest (and it has been going on way too long).  Ordinary Americans, who pay the salaries of our government officials, as well as their healthcare, security and pensions, have been thrust aside because they cannot compete with corporatists!  Further, we need to get rid of the electoral vote -- have run-off voting to achieve a greater than 50% majority.

This is WHAT should be done -- but the chances of it being done are slim to none.  We have to crack this entire system -- it works only for the rich!  Think not?  We are on the edge of becoming a 3rd world country -- the rich controlling "serfs."

Yet, Harry Reid continues to give "Nothing But Excuses" (4.00 / 6)
The Dems sorry excuse for a Senate Majority Leader continues to prove his total ineptness and cowardice:

"We have 60 votes on paper," Senator Harry Reid, the majority leader, said Wednesday in an interview. "But we cannot bulldoze anybody; it doesn't work that way. My caucus doesn't allow it. And we have a very diverse group of senators philosophically. I am not this morning suddenly flexing my muscles."

I continue to be astonished and disgusted that the Democrats elected and retain that totally incompetent, totally impotent wimp as a Majority "Leader".  If he really doesn't understand that it's his job to "bulldoze" whomever necessary to get legislation passed, especially when it's the will of the people--and since he apparently doesn't even have any "muscles to flex"--he's in the wrong job.   He's the very embodiment of why the Democrats will fail to use the majority they've been temporarily given--and why they will probably lose it.

Oops Sorry for the double Post--thought I had accidentally deleted the... (4.00 / 5)
first one.   Sorry again--pls. ignore the double post.  Though it does show that I'm Really p.o.d with the sniveling, wimpish, whiny excuses of the useless Sen. Reid.

Yeh, yeh, yeh, serendipity! (4.00 / 5)
Sure, you're sorry!  ;)

I finally understand what the meaning of "bipartisanship" is!  It means when the Democrats have joined the Republicans, as NEOCONS!

Well said buhdy - (4.00 / 6)
maybe there is a lesson to be learned from Norm Coleman.  The winds of change are blowing, and it's a cold north wind.

I'm afraid this is showing just how powerful the lobbies and special (4.00 / 7)
interests are in our political system.  60, 70, it aint gonna matter.

Threat Of Progressive 3rd Party Might Be Required (4.00 / 6)
If 20 to 30% of Democratic voters are open to bona fide liberal progressiveism via a new party.....
As of now I feel deceived by Obama, I already knew Reid was a POS.

Right on!! (4.00 / 1)

The politicos are so greedy and so lined up on their knees for their "big bucks", we need to  get our own Tasmanian Devil and give them a "whammy" they will never forget, seriously. More and better primary fights. Start with them now. Get a soap box (milk crate) and stand in the middle of the mall, in front of city hall, at sporting events, any where, and yell louder.

Hugs!

The Democratic Party? AKA The GOP Company Union? With 60 votes and (4.00 / 6)
too scared of their real masters to be worried about voters. Sure, we can fire them but whose gonna take care of them afterwards? Are you sure its the lobbyists who are doing the blowing? I always thought that he who paid for the party calls the tunes? Vote most of them out, vote for any sane person who manages to get on a ballot in any state on any rational party line, just no more Dems, Repugs, Obamas for me. Any third party candidates around 2012, Ralph can you hear me?
