Muse in the Morning

The muses are ancient.  The inspirations for our stories were said to be born from them.  Muses of song and dance, or poetry and prose, of comedy and tragedy, of the inward and the outward.  In one version they are Calliope, Euterpe and Terpsichore, Erato and Clio, Thalia and Melpomene, Polyhymnia and Urania.

It has also been traditional to name a tenth muse.  Plato declared Sappho to be the tenth muse, the muse of women poets.  Others have been suggested throughout the centuries.  I don’t have a name for one, but I do think there should be a muse for the graphical arts.  And maybe there should be many more.

Please join us inside to celebrate our various muses…

Slices

Each time
a class of people
is defined
humanity is divided
hewed like an old log

Just like that log
destruction occurs
at the point
where the axe strikes

But the damage done
to the people
in the path of the cut
is much more serious
than the harm done
to some old wood

Race cuts like a saber
through individuals
of mixed ancestry
Can you feel their pain?

How feels the slice
of the katana
of ethnicity
to someone
whose grandparents
hail from four different cultures?

Blood spurts
from the laceration
of the gender scimitar
through those
not exactly
men or women
I live
on the edge
of that blade

I know you have talent.  What sometimes is forgotten is that being practical is a talent.  I have a paucity for that sort of talent in many situations, though it turns out that I’m a pretty darn good cook.  🙂

Let your talent bloom.  You can share it here.  Encourage others to let it bloom inside them as well.

Won’t you share your words or art, your sounds or visions, your thoughts scientific or philosophic, the comedy or tragedy of your days, the stories of doing and making?  And be excellent to one another!

when in a creative moment, words can just write themselves as I walk along.

That’s not always a good thing, because I am generally not in position to capture them.  I have at least three poems which are pale imitations of what might have been…or at least that’s how I feel after I write down the idea and try to finish it.  This is )of course…or I wouldn’t be mentioning it) one of those.

  3. I napped for a while woke up with a huge headache and had it all day. The night before one of our patients died and I have to quarterback the “after” process and the phone calls ect ect. One of the newer staff members was having a hard time and wanted to know why we were all so calm. She thought we weren’t sad. I told her that if I ever stop being sad when somebody passes, I will quit. I think that helped because she was able to help us prepare the body and take him to the morgue. Her first time. So, that song has special meaning for me this am.

  4. Three tons of gravel and one ton of sand added for better drainage and more space between dog and Alabama bugs.  My husband expects my full participation because they are my dogs.  I think I have a couple of new born muscles, they cry a lot.  I think the dogs will cry less though 😉

I feel like I am pissing into a hurricane when I have to explain to LIBERALS why tasing a kid is wrong, and that there is a pattern here.

    WTF is going on????

I feel like I’m pissing into a hurricane when  I get beat down by LIBERALS for saying electing Democrats changes nothing.

I mean what Democrat is really liberal anymore?

Until one stands for Gay Marriage, A womans Right to reproductive say, Habeas Corpus, no Illegal Surveillance, National Healthcare, addresses Racism and Classism…

    Pissing into a gale, here.

I’ll stand up for the lookout.  But its a lonely place to be standing in America anymore.

  5. I’m not awake yet.  But the news tells me frank sold out ENDA.  Bigtime.  I’m sure more diaries will be along later, but I’ve now done a trans diary at the orange, and before coffee no less…

If you want to come give a rec or make a comment, I’d be grateful…even a couple more minutes of exposure would be a good thing I think.
