The New Lion Cubs at the Bronx Zoo

(11 am. – promoted by ek hornbeck)

Sort of cross-posted at DKos as Friday Evening Photo Blogging: Lion Cubs Today!

I took a little trip to the African veldt today.

Oh okay, I never made it out of the Bronx. Today I went to see the three new lion cubs that were born on January 27th and made their public début this week. So give a roaring welcome to Nala, Adamma and Shani as they get used to their new digs. Their big sister Moxie is a very good baby sitter for these 25 pound kittens.

These three young pooties might look like they are already studying for adulthood.

But they are filled with young energy and very cute.

Always playing.

Or striking a pose.

It’s all one big happy family and the best show in town now.

The proud papa is M’wasi’s who doesn’t get involved much.

And mama Sukari has her work cut out for her.

Dad is good for the occasional yawn himself.

But Moxie who was the star of the show last summer and is only eighteen months old never seems to tire.

Dad can get a little moody.

But when he does, mom will put things right.

The best views are with big sister, Moxie is still a star.

And very affectionate.

Mom does watch things when Moxie wants to go stare at the zebras.

And of course the three can be very demanding of her attention.

Meow.

What a great family.

And a wonderful big sister.

Both Bloomberg and the other clown in Albany are putting the screws to the zoo again.

But I did not want to get started. They closed down the World of Darkness and the Rare Animal Range last year because of budget cuts. This year the politicians want them to cut that one day a week that the zoo is free.

So here is a good photo for you.

By the way junior is watching dad piss in this photo, dad must be imitating Bloomberg’s thratment of cultural and educational institutes. What bullshit, end the free days so the city doesn’t need to give any support.

They had a little effect on Paterson before he shot himself in the foot. Now he’s in the political graveyard so he gains nothing from acting like a decent human being.

You can forget about Bloomberg. He thinks the problem with the zoo is letting poor people in for free one day a week and offering low cost eduction programs. If anyone disagrees, he’ll just pay them to change their minds.

  1. Tell me ‘Bambi’ is not in the same enclosure as the Lions.

The cubs are cute, but are not to be trusted with ‘dinner’ walking around. 🙂

  2. Load of my mind!

I knew they weren’t in the same place…felt the snark this morning.

This zoo looks quite inviting. Maybe next time I visit my cousin I’ll talk him into taking me.

  3. …to the Bronx zoo, took pics, and posted them here.

I was going to say that I’m glad these kittehs arn’t marine mammals who live in the GOM.  Then I read about Blumie and Pattie, and realized it’s just another ego-maniacal-human attack on life!

But thanks for your wonderful pictures of these beautiful beings.
