The Jewish philosopher Rabbi Hillel asked, “If I am not for myself, then who will be for me? And if I am only for myself, then what am I? And if not now, when?”
With our social safety net, Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, under attack from the plutocrats who run our government, we need to ask all our representatives these questions.
Former Senator Alan Simpson (R-UT)
I get so damn sick and tired of listening to the little guy, the vulnerable, the veteran – I am a veteran, and the seniors and this and this and this and the meanwhile this country is headed for second-class status while everybody just babbles into the vapor.
I think we are sick and tired of hearing from Mr. Simpson.

Both he and Pete Peterson, apparently, are octogenarian misanthropes. They seem to have great contempt for seniors and those who need assistance. Peterson once said that “seniors are a drag on society.” Really! So, Americans are not worthy of any kind of decent living (mostly, poor) and dignity after having worked all their lives and paid into the Social Security, Medicare Trust Funds, and paid their income taxes right down the line???? So, by robbing their Trust Funds, seniors, the disabled and children would become so impoverished that they would simply drop dead (many do for want of care, anyway). Gawd help any kind of privatization of the funds, can you imagine?
People who have lost their jobs are not finding work with unilateral salaries, they’re takings jobs as much as half of what their salaries were. Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid are increasingly important, since wage earners are making so much less and will have no means of saving anything at all.
Sen. Sanders and Sen. Majority Leader Reid and now some “27 other Democratic Senators have signed a letter pledging to oppose any cuts to Social Security as part of a broader deficit-reduction package.”
In a UN article on aging and greater longevity, the UN has been urging all countries to prepare and set aside for the aged . . . . . over 100 countries have already begun making plans and efforts.
It’s depressing to live in a country that cares not for its citizens.
