The Battle For America, Full Throttle Edition

The citizens of this nation need a good talking-to, not a talking point. It's time for the citizens to stand up and insist that their elected officials perform their duties as public servants and defendants of the Constitution instead of as tin-plated demigods of political voodoo and power-plays.

Earlier tonight, in light of my posting of a video from 2004, I was encouraged to post some additional information about the video, the artist -- anything, actually -- just to get the video out in front of people. Here is that post.

IF you believe this is important and that no time should be wasted, then the first person to volunteer below to post it on DailyKos is welcomed to do so. I have used my Daily Diary there already.

Please provide a link back to here and to ePluribus Media's new beta site.

Thank you.

GreyHawk :: The Battle For America, Full Throttle Edition
The creator of the video is one Alrick Brown; the words were written by Max Skolnik.1 There was even a site that hosted the videos -- The Battle for America -- but it appears to be going defunct.2 What prompted the creation of such a powerful piece? The failure of our election process in 2004. Alrick explains the project in a brief blurb on his website. Here's an excerpt, slightly edited and shortened to present here:
A few days after the 2004 election I walked the streets and rode the subways of New York and was amazed at the look of hopelessness on peoples' faces. They stole another election and then we let them cripple our morale as well. They were winning twice. [...snip...] I told him that I would not change or edit his words because whatever passion drove him to write it the way it was should be respected. The purpose of the piece was not to start a movement or a revolution but to inspire those would get up and start the movement, the paper, the website, etc. Max did his job by getting off his ass and writing it. [...snip...] Our simple hope was that people would see this, get up and go out there and do something productive and proactive. It is not time to sulk or complain. It is time to stand up.

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has."
     - Margaret Mead

The video is potent. Here it is again:

Please pass it along, and encourage everyone who is disheartened to take heed: the Battle for America has begun in earnest. Get up, stand up, and let your voice be heard.

As requested...here's the video again, (4.00 / 8)
with more detail, as a diary.

...Dammit, I did it again...didn't mean to FP it, but hope that it's ok given the topic.

I'd love to post it for you but since (4.00 / 2)
I've NEVER done a diary - haven't a clue how.  Hopefully
someone with knowledge will step up soon.  And if not, why
not wait one day and post it yourself.  After all, you did
do the leg work and ought to get the credit.  ;)

WTF? Planet Orange? (4.00 / 2)
...You challenge, "If you believe this is important and that no time should be wasted, then the first person to volunteer below to post it on DailyKos is welcomed to do so. I have used my Daily Diary there already."

And all I can say, as I said to buhdyman earlier tonite, in a different context:

As if we could/should/would might, possibly give a flying fuck in a rolling doughnut about those Planet Orange dweebs, here at docudharma?

As if!!!

Right now.... (4.00 / 4)
they have the numbers and we don't.  This will change!!
Besides, we don't really want their fucking flames wars, do
we??

Always forgive your enemies.  Nothing annoys them so much. ~Oscar Wilde

[ Parent ]
"Flame wars"? Please, god, no! (4.00 / 4)
I only joined Dkos in January of this year.

But, having read so many references to the "Flame Wars" of 2004, and seeing that stupidity playing out now there in 2007, I can't agree with you more!

Peace.

All the yelling at each other makes my head hurt. (4.00 / 2)
For some reason they don't seem to realize we're all
pretty much on the same team.  I'd rather
save my anger for the bastards who really really deserve
it!

What masslass said, and then some. (4.00 / 6)
There are a lot of good people and activists there. Ideally, many will see and spread the word.

It's a powerful group / community with many, many eyeballs -- all of whom are our brothers and sisters, mired alongside us in this nightmarish swamp, waiting for something to buoy up our sinking spirits and succor our spirits so that we can find the strength we need to restore dignity, honor, freedom, integrity and democracy to our nation once more.

I'm an active participant and supporter there, plus an editor, writer and researcher at ePluribus Media; I am also working to increase my participation here (and to remember to unclick that @#$@# "post on front page" button). I write for multiple venues, but crosspost -- not only on the three places mentioned above, but sometimes quite widely -- because sometimes more physical source spots helps get the word out faster.

For me, "we" is all of us in the blogosphere, not simply Docudharma or dKos or ePluribus folks. It's a "we" comprised of all of the above, and any others who work to reverse the negative trends and criminal activities of the Republicans, a few Dems, and a mix of other politicos.

We're all in it together, to push the nation forward and unstain the nation's soul.

[ Parent ]
Damn, but you have a way with words! (4.00 / 4)
We're all in it together, to push the nation forward and unstain the nation's soul.

Please post this yourself - everywhere you can think of.
It really needs to be seen.

Always forgive your enemies.  Nothing annoys them so much. ~Oscar Wilde

[ Parent ]
If nobody updates this to say that (4.00 / 4)
they crossposted it to dKos, then I'll do it around 6 pm tomorrow, when my 24 hour "day" expires from the time of my last diary over there.

[ Parent ]
what do i need to know about posting the video? (4.00 / 3)
do i just plug in the info from youtube as a link?  have never done a video before.  and when do you think is the best time to post it - tonight?  early am? afternoon?  i'm in new york.  happy to do it for you, but the vid stops me.

"We all live in a house on fire, no fire department to call; no way out, just the upstairs window to look out of while the fire burns the house down with us trapped, locked in it."  -Tennessee Williams

[ Parent ]
On dKos, there's an easy way to post it. (4.00 / 4)
YouTube videos are coded, and ct wrote a script to make it easy to do.

For this video, the YouTube code is veO_bGXuR6U (you get it by clicking the video and having it take you to YouTube, then looking at the URL).

So, to post this video on dKos using the easy method, you'd simply put the following:

((youtube veO_bGXuR6U))
When you submit the post, DailyKos automagickally transforms it into the proper codes.

[ Parent ]
hope you don't mind if i do it in the morning (4.00 / 4)
just checked in after a bath and i am beat.  thanks for the vid explanation.  if someone hasn't already posted it, i will do it first thing.

"We all live in a house on fire, no fire department to call; no way out, just the upstairs window to look out of while the fire burns the house down with us trapped, locked in it."  -Tennessee Williams

[ Parent ]
OK -- and if you don't get to it, (4.00 / 2)
I'll take care of it when six o'clock rolls by.

Thank you.

:)

[ Parent ]
tried to do this earlier (4.00 / 1)
but got more error messages than i have ever received.  had to run out. am working out the bugs now.

"We all live in a house on fire, no fire department to call; no way out, just the upstairs window to look out of while the fire burns the house down with us trapped, locked in it."  -Tennessee Williams

[ Parent ]
Oh, bummer -- I looked here, but didn't see anything... (0.00 / 0)
...so I posted it as well.

:/

[ Parent ]
done (4.00 / 1)
right here

"We all live in a house on fire, no fire department to call; no way out, just the upstairs window to look out of while the fire burns the house down with us trapped, locked in it."  -Tennessee Williams

[ Parent ]
Thank you -- and darn it... (0.00 / 0)
...I hadn't seen anything, so re-read the thread, and checked here and at dkos, then decided to do it anyway since I got back a few hours earlier than expected. :/

...what kind of errors had you run into...?

[ Parent ]
I didn't post a clear comment here, (0.00 / 0)
but I did post one.

Aw, bummer...

[ Parent ]
that is a shame that you used up your diary (4.00 / 1)
should we leave both up?  it is a great video and maybe a few more people will see it.  the diary i posted had maybe 3 comments the last i looked.

i looked and didn't see anything but got so caught up in fixing my mistakes that i may have missed it.

"We all live in a house on fire, no fire department to call; no way out, just the upstairs window to look out of while the fire burns the house down with us trapped, locked in it."  -Tennessee Williams

[ Parent ]
I got only a few comments but (0.00 / 0)
something like 18 Recommends.

You could repeat the content partially, then post a link to the mine, and tell folks to check it out -- and perhaps refer to a diary or two here, or comments received in the original "Battle for America" posting here that encouraged the new version to be written.

That'd allow your diary to remain, but somewhat changed, and it would draw attention to the version I posted as well as to some stuff going on here.

...does that make sense? (Maybe Buhdy or Ek would have an idea as to the best way to proceed, too...)

I need to run and go visit my Mother in Law before she passes out for the night, but I'll be back within the hour...

[ Parent ]
done (4.00 / 1)
left full content up, but put link to your diary at the top and asked people to rec it up so that it will hopefully end up on the recommended list.

"We all live in a house on fire, no fire department to call; no way out, just the upstairs window to look out of while the fire burns the house down with us trapped, locked in it."  -Tennessee Williams

[ Parent ]
Thank you. I genuinely, gratefully and greatly (4.00 / 1)
appreciate your time and effort to help get this posted over there, and feel bad that I crossed our signals and messed stuff up.

:/

...but, hopefully together we'll jar a few folks with some positive messages and add a little extra "oomph!" toward rolling back the tides of destruction that unchecked idiocy conservativism has unleashed on our planet.

[ Parent ]
IMHO... (4.00 / 3)
...You're probably better off re-posting it tomorrow at Dkos.  Cuz I'm on the shit-list over at Planet Orange (don't ask); so I wouldn't be of much help, crossposting-wise.

[ Parent ]
We'll be watching for it! n/t (4.00 / 3)

Yes it is that easy.

When I joined... (4.00 / 4)
there were not a lot of people around who could or would answer my questions about how things worked.

So I started pushing buttons and now I share.

Actually, the above comment was (4.00 / 1)
tongue in cheek.  But I really do appreciate any and all help
you give.  Offered help was the first thing that that made
me feel welcome here.  And for that I thank you!

OT: grr...you reminded me of the Sheraton - Chicago (4.00 / 4)
I took the train from Philly back to Portland in April, got into Chicago too late to make my connection (the Empire Builder...great ride!) so Amtrak put me up at the Sheraton Towers.

No wi-fi in the rooms but they had it in the lobby. Unfortunately they charged for it. Something like $12 for 24 hours. I worked from about 9 pm to 10, then went up to the room.

Next morning went to the lobby, plugged in and found out the 24 hrs they spoke about meant 12:01 am to midnight so I was expected to pay another 12 bucks. Instead I checked out, went to the train station and set up in the Metropolitan Lounge where the wi-fi is free.

But I'm way off-topic...

[ Parent ]
Now posted on DailyKos, too. (4.00 / 2)
Here's the link:

I am priviliged to read your post, GreyHawk...and... (4.00 / 5)
...you have, appropriatley , reminded me of my own smallmindedness.

Thank you.

[ Parent ]
You're a wonderful supporter of this (4.00 / 5)
blog's individual efforts, and that's always commendable.

;)

[ Parent ]
love the passion and maybe we could try and see it like this: (4.00 / 5)
as and/and NOT and/or

it's time to start crossing the lines, not drawing more of them in the sand
