The Week in Editorial Cartoons – With Malice Towards All

THE WEEK IN EDITORIAL CARTOONS

This weekly diary takes a look at the past week’s important news stories from the perspective of our leading editorial cartoonists (including a few foreign ones) with analysis and commentary added in by me.

When evaluating a cartoon, ask yourself these questions:

1. Does a cartoon add to my existing knowledge base and help crystallize my thinking about the issue depicted?

2. Does the cartoonist have any obvious biases that distort reality?

3. Is the cartoonist reflecting prevailing public opinion or trying to shape it?

The answers will help determine the effectiveness of the cartoonist’s message.

Sun Tzu: “Treat the captives well, and care for them.”

Treat the captives well, and care for them.

All the soldiers taken must be cared for with magnanimitty and sincerity so that they may be used by us.

This is called ‘winning a battle and becoming stronger.’

Hence what is essential in war is victory, not prolonged operations. . .

                               –  The Art of War

Military contractors do not seek victory, but, “prolonged operations.”

Instead of breaking minds and bodies in order to win hearts and minds, maybe we should have read more history.

I have recently read Sun Tzu’s “The Art of War”. Although this book was written over 2300 years ago and in a time before drone missiles, military contractors and Military Industrial Complexes, I feel that it is a good book to read for everyone who would like to learn the age old and time tested concepts of military strategy.

The Promised Land

I am still stunned by what has happened.  While I have many concerns I am not thinking about them now.  If only for this one essay, I want to set everything aside to simply celebrate our historic achievement as a people.

I remain overwhelmed.  It still hasn’t entirely sunk in.  It is really huge, probably the biggest single event in my lifetime – certainly in the political realm.  What a remarkable, amazing, stunning victory for us all.  What a wonderful moment for America.  We have achieved a great milestone.

How starving were we for this great day to be an American?

The Road Forward

Note:  I normally always post here at Docudharma first, but yesterday I ran into problems with my youtube code.  Took until this morning to resolve it with On The Bus’s kind assistance.  Thanks OTB.  ðŸ™‚

I laughed, I cried, I laughed as I cried.

Congratulations America.  Congratulations President Obama.  And congratulations Docudharma, DailyKos and the Netroots.

I have prayed for a legitimate reason to be proud of my country.  That prayer has been answered.
