Scheduling Reminder

Just below this you will see I have bumped ek’s scheduling post back up near the top. If you DO want a slot, go ahead and sign up. If you prefer to have a floating slot, please post a comment to that effect in THIS essay.

You are NOT required to have a regular slot. But as we get closer to launch date (yippeee!)we need to get a little tighter on how the FP is run.

Anytime more than 3 hrs has passed since the last post by a CE (Contributing Editor) you are welcome to post on the FP. UNLESS someone is scheduled for that slot!

Anytime 90 minutes has passed since a post by an FP’r….Armando, Turkana, OPOL, ek, or me…..you are welcome to post on the FP. UNLESS someone is scheduled for that slot!

We will soon (when OTB gets back) start putting up the days schedule for all to see! Until then, any transgressions are explicitly forgiven!

The requested restriction on posting only meta is gone and forgotten, the FP is now wide open under the rules laid out above.

For those who have not discovered it, on the essay composition page there is a button under “other options” that allows Editors to switch from the FP to the recent list and vice versa.

If you are confused as to whether you are a Contributing Editor or not, first see if you have that button! If you do, you are an Editor. This means you are REQUIRED under pain of the most horrid curses and hexes to post an ORIGINAL non-xposted essay once a week. Or at least pretty close to that!

If I hadn’t made this clear or you still have questions or you wish to curse me back….have at it in the comments below!

But if you wish to sign up for a slot please do it in ek’s essay for ease of correlation.

Thank you!

  1. ..to post ALL of my essays to the front page.
    ….all none of them..

i dont have much to say on the content scheduling issue, but if you were going to go ahead with (was it ek??) someone’s suggestion to have moderators ‘watch’ the site, at least the initial rollout, i can take some shifts at that.  daytimes are good for me, evenings a little harder.

for criticism of whatever I post, particularly before the Grand Opening. Reach dead ends, etc., without feedback.

Again, think we need private board for back channel, non public communications. Big question is who all it would be open to.

up for some reason and blurt out a diary or worse.

There is always the possibility, if a dry spell threatens, of promoting something from the recent list. That is probably where I will post most things outside my slot(s).

  2. Happy Birthday!

  3. we need a private site, where we can post the schedule, and people can also post that they have something ready to go for an unscheduled slot. otherwise, we may bump into each other.

    1. if you will do the same… wrote for a newspaper for several years and had great editors and i miss that synergy… the push and the pull

so have at mine too, if you wouldn’t mind

  4. so I missed out in this thread of scheduling.  My brain is fried tonight so if someone could post what needs to be filled I can see what works for me in the remaining slots.

    1. but im not sure it necessarily needs to be a front-page item.  i thought the scheduling was mostly for the front page.

it feels weekendy to me, but i want to see after the rollout what the traffic pattern is like.  if people would rather it be an ‘established’ meet-n-greet type deal, i can take the temp from within the comments, see what people would prefer. (look how adorably optimistic i am that ill have comments…this is an artists rendering of me after reading my millions of comments:
      X-(

on a related note, i was remembering today that when laura bush wrote a book and described moving into the white house, she was (and i dont think she meant this humourously) very critical that hillary hadn’t ‘kept the place up’, and that some of the carpets were threadbare in places.  which could also kind-of be indicative of the differences between the ‘typical republican’ focus on image over substance, and relegating women to housekeeping, and the more progressive, productive agenda we’re hoping going to promote.

  5. I’m just having a bit of a hard time keeping up in the last couple of weeks.

New job, under deadline (I’ll be done by tomorrow! Yay!), moved a friend out of my house and day to day life for now (is it bad of me to say “Yay!” to that?), too many dogs, cats, puppies, kids. YIKES. I hate laundry, too.

Ugh. I’ll get better. Just need a good weekend off.

When do we go live? I’ll start writing again for real this weekend, I promise, so that I’ll be ready.

Maybe I should move to Mexico, too. Meh.
    I’m whining again. Waaaah!
