Launch Strategy Open Thread

Here’s da plan!

At the top of the hour I am going to (HTML Gods willing) post the launch essay on Dkos. When traffic dies down there, I will start going round to the other blogs and putting up a revised version.

After I revise it.

Which shouldn’t take too long,lol!

I will also post the launch diary here at the same time, so folks have somewhere to come and comment….but this seems to interfere with exemearden? Or am I reading that schedule wrong?

If not….sorry exeme!

Boycott All Fundraising For The Sitting Congress

You are nothing but an ATM to the Democratic Party. Daily Kos is a cash cow they pander to only during election years because of the money you can generate for their campaigns. And once you have secured their seats, they no longer return your calls, and your emails are returned with generated noreply responses. They do not care what you think, they only want you for your money.

Once they have what they want, they do not feel the need to comply with the wishes  of the ones who sent them there. You are irrelevant in their eyes since they have no need for fund raising this year. If they cared, if they truly cared what the netroots wanted, they would act on the principles of those who canvassed, those who worked their phones, those who gave them money.

They don’t. You are just a typing ATM machine to them, and nothing more.

Welcome to a weekly roundup of news related to the gay, lesbian, trans, and otherwise “other” community.

  • After Bill Richardson’s much-discussed comment in the HRC debate, the discussion over choice as a factor in sexual orientation continues with a new study on “ex-gays” published by InterVarsity Press (h/t Box Turtle Bulletin).  Of course, they can be counted on for total scientific rigor:

Founded in 1947 as an extension of InterVarsity Christian Fellowship/USA, InterVarsity Press serves those in the university, the church and the world by publishing thoughtful Christian books that equip and encourage people to follow Jesus as Savior and Lord in all of life.

The relationship between sexuality, biology, environment, and choice has never been an easy one to understand, much less encapsulate in a single soundbite – but something makes me a bit suspicious of scientific studies in which science is not the end goal.  Is that fair?

There is a real effective surge in Iraq.  It just isn’t with the combat forces.

Cholera is surging through the country.

Pony Party: Welcome to the Monkey House

Good morning!!

I hope those of you more familiar with DocuDharma will indulge me as I take a minute to explain what the heck a Pony Party is.

Pony Parties should appear in the ‘Recent Essays’ section of your DocuDharma Front Page 3 times a day, 9 a.m., noon, and 3 p.m. Eastern.  They serve as open fora, so feel free to ‘pimp’ an essay, say hello, vent, or throw up a plethora of ponies and pooties.  Basically, the floor is yours.

They appear in the essay column, and due to their frequency and the additional open fora that will appear on the Front Page (more on that later), are meant to scroll away.  So please, don’t recommend the Pony Party essay.  I know it’s tough.  We’re nice people, and we like to give acknowledgment.  Trust me, we won’t take it personally.  But you know who might?  The person who gets bumped off of the Recommended Essays list by a Pony Party.  Put yourself in his/her shoes.

Muse in the Morning

The muses are ancient.  The inspirations for our stories were said to be born from them.  Muses of song and dance, or poetry and prose, of comedy and tragedy, of the inward and the outward.  In one version they are Calliope, Euterpe and Terpsichore, Erato and Clio, Thalia and Melpomene, Polyhymnia and Urania.

It has also been traditional to name a tenth muse.  Plato declared Sappho to be the tenth muse, the muse of women poets.  Others have been suggested throughout the centuries.  I don’t have a name for one, but I do think there should be a muse for the graphical arts.  And maybe there should be many more for all kinds of different skills and talents.

Please join us inside to celebrate our various muses.  If you’d rather celebrate some Lares or Penates, that’s cool, too…

Japanese Prime Minister Abe will resign
By CHISAKI WATANABE, Associated Press Writer
2 minutes ago

TOKYO – Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe announced Wednesday he will resign, ending a year-old government that has suffered a string of damaging scandals and a humiliating electoral defeat.

Abe, whose support rating has fallen to 30 percent, cited the ruling party’s defeat in July 29 elections for the upper house of parliament, and said he had instructed party leaders to immediately search for a new premier.

“In the present situation it is difficult to push ahead with effective policies that win the support and trust of the public,” Abe said in a nationally televised news conference. “I have decided that we need a change in this situation.”

Two soldiers who wrote NY Times op-ed killed in action

Over at dkos, Brandon Friedman has a diary up reporting that two of the seven soldiers who wrote that outstanding  NY Times op ed critical of the fiasco in Iraq have been killed in action.

Fine, honorable, courageous, intelligent men…lost to the madness of this war and this President.
We are less without them.
