Pony Party: Coffee, Coffee, Coffee

I love coffee, even bad coffee. I don’t remember the exact age at which I started drinking it regularly, but I grew up in a town with a coffee shop culture, probably because at that time there were a lot of shift workers. I didn’t get to find out about the best coffee shops in st augustine fl, or elsewhere. Coffee was simple then. It was just coffee and donuts, it came in a white utilitarian cup. I did not get my coffee horizons expanded until a trip to Spain and Portugal at age 19. Whilst I have improved my coffee-making skills by reading numerous Basic Coffee Brewing Tips online, there is still nothing like sitting in a little coffee shop somewhere with a cup of coffee that has been perfectly crafted by the master barista and watching the world go by.

These days you can even get fair trade coffee at Costco.

A few random coffee facts…

Americans are number one in coffee consumption, drinking 400 million cups of coffee per day.

Australians claim they created the flat white and have a prevalent coffee culture due to the strong Italian immigration, hence the number of cafes and restaurants selling great coffee north melbourne based!

Drinking coffee might reduce you risk of liver cancer.

It might also reduce the likelihood of getting gout.

I know there are negatives associated with coffee, I am simply going to avoid discussing them.

Annoying sexist Folger’s commercial from the 70’s. It seems kind of funny now… in a I can’t believe he said that way.

Weird Folger’s commercial.

Inspirational music from my younger days to help you wake up and seize the day. These are, the Redskins, the video is lame, the music is great.

Undercovercalico is in the house after working all night.

Please don’t rec Pony Party, stay to chat and hang out, and then go check out the recent diaries.

That’s too funny!  and weird, yes!
    Good morning everybody!
    Here’s Beth Orton’s “Central Reservation!”
    Also good wake up music!

  2. and trying to decide if I want to make another one.  I’ve got three days worth of newspapers here on the table next to my laptop.  It’s been a busy week.  What is it with coffee?

  3. …heavy italian roast so greasy it sticks to the end of your nose, ground up fresh and topped with cream…but after 20 hours UC — that’s exiting coffee territory and entering into the realm of prescription only…

  4. strong – as in cut it with a knife – black and gallons full when I was in a community theatre production (dancing chorus)in the 8th grade.  I learned to swear artfully, too, so my education was pretty dayam good. Up until I stopped growing – coincidentally seems to have happened when I started drinking pots of swill strong, burned coffee, I was training to be a Rockette, and I can still quadruple time step fairly well.  (shuffling off to Buffalo now and then to my camel walk  *g*).

but the family fd don’t let me have any because it makes my pump go twenty to the dozen. I nod to the lectures with a serious face on. Because eventually I will have the house to myself and I know where the Java is.

  5. started drinking coffee during my freshman year of college, and i took to it with a fervor.

never ever used sugar. to this day, the only sweetened coffee drink i’ll abide is a good thai iced coffee.

i did go through a phase for a few years when i was drinking it black, but i’ve since reverted to adding half and half.

the stunning panoply of half-calf, soy, double tall, triple lutz, mochachi nolo contendre, tickle me with a feather, fellatte, etc. contortions that patrons will go through placing their orders for a cuppa make my head spin.

you know what i order when i go to a coffee shop? i order fucking coffee, for shit’s sake.
