Pony Party — Paper!

So I knew I’d be doing a couple of these, and I thought “Make it an exercise in improv!” Sit down, pull a topic out of the air, publish!

Um, yeah.

No recs, please. Ponies is allergic…

So I look around the room, frantic for inspiration — Cat? Too obvious. TV? Nah, that’s the ‘day job.’ Nearly empty glass of tea? Gotta fix that, but no, did that yesterday. What is it I see the most of? No, not cat hair. Paper.

I suspect that, measured by either volume or weight, most of what fills my living space is paper. Books, magazines, catalogs, notebooks (because sometimes ya gotta write longhand), mail, newspapers (not todays, though, or Mondays, and yesterdays didn’t arrive until the afternoon. Gotta call them and fix that)… even posters and prints on the wall, I suppose. And that cardboard box the cat’s been denning in. Lotsa dead trees here. Mostly by my own choice (except the box. I swear, every time I go to throw it out, she’s sleeping in it).

Not the catalogs, though. I don’t especially mind them — sometimes it’s restful, to just look at the pictures of pretty things, and I do get some unusual catalogs. The arty ones are my favorites — its’ like going to one of those uber-expensive craft shows, where I don’t expect to be able to buy anything anyway so I treat it like a museum (crafters sometimes get annoyed by this). And the kids catalogs have been useful over the years, since Toys R Us, Target, and yard sales have a limited selection of Cool-Tia-gifts for the nephews. But… hangers? An entire catalog (and website) devoted to clothes hangers? Ooh, they’ve got a ‘new petite collection’… And I don’t remember the catalogs piling up so early in previous years. Right after labor day my mailbox started filling up… isn’t it usually closer to thanksgiving?

Hey, lookit all the words I writ. First thing in the morning, too. Yay me! (I hope I haven’t used up my ration for the day…)

Anyone else got words to write? It’s an open thread…

    Pony up

  1. Worked 12 hours had a meeting for two, I said some crazy shit that people laughed at but I don’t remember what it was.

We get a lot of catalogs. I had no idea there were “petites” in hangers. Must contemplate that.
