As long as we are doing short diaries, I’d like to offer this:
There are two kinds of republicans:
Rich ones:
And those that keep them rich:
Democrats need to repeat this simple message over and over.

O ponies? Or something else? Do tell.
although with due respect, i think you’re missing the target you’ve aimed for.
now, i certainly don’t know for sure, but i’d expect that at least some of those flag draped remains are those of once-living non-republicans. ditto those flanking standing in respectful attention.
i completely agree with the inference to be drawn here that military activity (in our history, and certainly what’s going on now) has at its foundation a hidden-in-plain-view, unspoken-but-obvious design to further the goals of powerful and entrenched (and right-wing) economic interests.
and it’s interesting and ironic that the early warnings about the potential destructive impacts of military-as-business came decades ago. from eisenhower. a miltary guy. a republican.
but while we don’t have an institutionalized draft, the increasingly disparate economic experiences of the wealthy and everyone else renders military service the most appealing and available option for many of our citizens. it serves as a defacto draft for the have-nots–many of whom are on our side, politically-speaking.
