Straight from the Great Pony’s mouth….
1. buhdy wants the stars and ponies back
2. however, we have lost our permission to use the ponies – so we have to find different ones
3. he does not like the font on the buddha banner – prefers an Asian brush stroke font
4. suggested we put the buddha on the star background
5. wants to have a banner contest – may the best win
so here we go…
this is his concept –
& I hereby recuse myself from the banner. I’m going to put OPOL’s latest back up until we have something more definite to show.
pfiore8 sent some mockups too. I will post them here if she doesn’t mind.

did you get a chance to look at the banners i sent?
also, there are chinese tang and sui dynasty horses that would look smashing if OPOL would photoshop them
I suggest a yellow background.
Also switching to winter tonight. It’s not science unless you can duplicate the results.
I like Earth tone, it’s easier and good looking, that’s why I did it first.
But maybe cool tones work better, there is research that suggests that going back farther than The Andromeda Strain.
I’ll be diarying this later.

Maybe that’s the design element that’s important to incorporate and the rest not so much.
OTB, I tried to do the banner image you asked me too do. It is available here. A fontless version of the first attempt, small version is available here.
I said before I didn’t want to start a ‘banner war’, so I’m sorry I got involved in an area not assigned. I’ll try not to let it happen again. Since, buhdy is gung-ho on a collage and I’m not a collage artist, I’m bowing out of the banner contest now.
This is my last word regarding the banner, layout, and colors. I’m keeping my opinions to the ‘text’ side and away from the ‘pictures’ side. It’s all good, this will let me focus more on my job at hand – news digests.

On The Bus… if you take out those orange ponies and can get some photoshop of the chinese horses… then i think your banner might actually work out very well
but the orange ponies and that representation of the horse… not for this design
i leave it to whomever is left… you guys can work it out but i will leave you with these thoughts?
– in diaries, the centered line separating main from extended text::: i would move that line flush left with the edge of the text… because columns widths vary, it always looks like it got stuck there
– also, if you abbreviate banner to leave top right for ads, keep FP aligned and flush with banner
– art in front page… it really should fit the format of the column… ie, Robyn’s art today would have worked better with art and text side by side or if she her style is the lone rectangle, then wrap around text… or keep all art in extended text… so that fp has consistent look is important
headline fonts: make them darker… need depth

On any of them. My version of PowerPoint is telling me I need “QuickTime” or a Tiff decompressor. I don’t know what the heck that even means.
The fonts you used may also be local to your machine. If I don’t have the same fonts installed they won’t show up in my version.

P…..thanks for putting so much effort in! Our tastes are NOT very complimentary so you might have to put up with some stuff you don’t like, sorry!
why have a static image in one place? can you format a comment to show a picture of a pony? or just a pony (in the format of FP column) itself on the FP… so it can suit your mood and it’s always a surprise when and where they’ll show up
can do in the ad space too… just a thought…
substitute the star background in the way LC did, and change the small box colors to suit that background; chg font to more oriental as i think buhdy requested and totally would fit… this is more for format and to give buhdy a place to surprise us every day with a new pony… or keep one up for a while and change… just an idea
also: i say after we are somewhat established, i go after apple to advertise and pitch them using their apple logo for buddha’s macbook pro
