Why Do GOP “Values” Voters Hate America?

Via Steve Benen and PFAW, here’s why:

Why should God bless America?
She’s forgotten he exists
And has turned her back
On everything that made her what she is

Why should God stand beside her
Through the night with the light from his hand?
God have mercy on America
Forgive her sin and heal our land

The courts ruled prayer out of our schools
In June of ’62
Told the children “you are your own God now
So you can make the rules”
O say can you see what that choice
Has cost us to this day
America, one nation under God, has gone astray

. . . In ’73 the Courts said we
Could take the unborn lives
The choice is yours don’t worry now
It’s not a wrong, it’s your right

But just because they made it law
Does not change God’s command
The most that we can hope for is
God’s mercy on our land

. . .(Reading from 2nd Chronicles 7:14) If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and forgive their sin and heal their land

God have mercy on America forgive her sins and heal our land

    ChristoNeoFascistZombieBrigade?

Good morning Armando.  I’m on a rant today.

Had a diary up with my first cup of coffee.

These people just tighten my jaw to no end.

Andy Rooney did his 60 Minutes bit not long ago about the arrogance behind the saying “God Bless America”. He pointed out that we should hope that God blesses all of humanity.

Every now and then ol’ Andy nails it. And while he may not come right out and say it, (look what happened to Dan Rather at the same network) I’m 99.9 percent sure that Andy has pretty much the same opinion of GWB that we all do here.

  1. I can’t help it if some people are nucking futz.  Gotta admit though that someone took more than a few hours to rewrite this song and then practice it……too bad it’s such a piece of reeking stinking religious creepy opinionism.

They have a strange view of God–is He narcisstic–does He punish the innocent along with the guilty–collective guilt?  I’ve had heated discussion with some of my new Southern neighbors.  They spout this shit; God helps those that help themselves, I respond that I was taught that God helps–period.

In the story of Sodom and Gomorrah, He eventually kills all.  But that was Daddy God, down here they have a strange mix of old and new testament.  They’re also blatant bigots–but that doesn’t seem to bother their God.  Also, Leviticus is taken with selectivity–gays bad, pork good.

God doesn’t hate America, His ministers have used fear to aggrandize both money and power–sometimes young boys.  The better title for this episode is –Why do GOP voters hate God? Also, let’s not lose sight of the fact that the Dem party was happy to have the religious nuts on their side until LBJ tried to free the “freed” slaves.  what goes around, …

  2. but no brains?

‘god bless america’ is sacrosanct where i come from…as the kate smith recording was considered a talisman to the flyers hockey team of the early ’70s (when she didnt show up to sing it herself!!).  their winning % is better than .70 when the song’s played.  so i’d best not jinx anything by commenting on its use for something as insignificant as politics or religion when there may be hockey wins at stake.

p.s…last time i prayed in school, god told me to shut up and get to work.

And I’m sure each of us has a good reason for not being in church… (cough, cough),

Why not take a few moments to test your Biblical knowledge? C’mon – it’s fun and educational!

And I strongly suspect the GOP would disapprove. 😉

God (heh) but I loves me some Maher.

Relevant part to this essay starts at 2:44.

  3. Because it is not doing enough to hasten Armageddon.

Well, except for Lieberman and Rick Santorum.

for “God.” No different than the jihadists:

America, one nation under God, has gone astray

Of course, there’s another way of looking at this:
America‘s one nation under God has gone astray.

Guess I’ll just go in the basement and await G’s wrath.  Hope too many people don’t have to die.

of Peter King’s assertion that there are “too many Mosques” and that they are places of “radical hate”?  How are these folks different?

    1. You have to immerse yourself in the word though before he starts to answer you.

    2. He just doesn’t LIKE you very much.

As far as your soul is concerned (if you believe in that sort of thing) it is a distinction without a difference.

Im not christian, but Jesus is the kind of guy I would want to have a beer with.

Today, home game at Petco Park, Padres v. Rockies.  We sang Halls of Montezuma AND God Bless America; many, many uniformed Marine drill sgts. and enlistees in attendance.  Padres still lost.  What was God thinking?
