According to the LiveScience.com story picked up by Yahoo!News, the website BetUS.com is taking bets as to who will win the Nobel Peace Prize. (LiveScience.com is a great website which I wholly recommend; BetUS.com is a subscription site I’ve never participated with.)
Al Gore is currently the favorite at 5:2.
Long shots paying at 100:1 right now include George W. Bush, Rush Limbaugh, and Tony Blair.
Other names you may have heard of which appear on the list:
Oprah Winfrey (50:1)
Bono (25:1)
Martti Ahtisaari (former president of Finland, 5:1)
The winner will be announced on Friday.
You can also go to LiveScience to vote to rate the Greatest Modern Minds. If you choose to rate, you will get the current results for the previous as you move through the list….some of the results are very interesting. Also, I found the mix of ‘great modern minds’ in itself interesting. Enjoy!

maybe this should go in the Locker Room
yikes!
yet, i wouldn’t mind if Oprah won
I’ve been thinking lately (yeah, I know, that’s dangerous!) about his 2000 run and election…He went through hell and back in a hand basket. He used his anger and frustration for absolutely wonderful and positive goals and look where he is now…I have so much respect for him and his family’s support of his goals.
However, how do you ask somebody to go through that again? Do we really think that the right won’t absolutely pull out all of the big guns to go after him? Of course they will. He has the power to fight back this time, I think that’s the big difference.
But I can’t help but feel that perhaps we let him down in 2000 by not standing behind him more when the recounts were stopped, when the Supreme Court made it’s decision. Sure there were some protests, but, really there should have been much, much more. We “should have” filled the streets of every major city, but we didn’t. Looking back on it now, we could say the same thing for our actions now. We’re not doing enough to stop our country from being completely destroyed.
All in all, I want Gore to run with every bone in my body, I want to work for his campaign should he run. I’m sure we will have his back this time! The next few months should prove to be very interesting, indeed!
Martti Ahtisaari.
5 to 1 is just too close for comfort!
