To the Tower, Igor!!!!

via videosift.com

Sorry for the title! I tried to overcompensate for just posting a piece of neato ‘art stuff’ by being clever. But these really do look like they could come to life……which is pretty scary!

NO ONE wants to mess with an 8′ tall very pregnant woman!

The other two videos that  make up the entire program start automatically, or at least they did for me. Here is the page URL if they don’t. Its a full half hour, but the first few minutes of the first video gives a good look at some  finished pieces. Most of the rest of the video is the how to….but also shows more of the artist’s sculpture.

And for you pesky bastiges who are always whining that we don’t cover theremin playing robots enough…

  2. is incredible.  He is operating on a higher plane.  Once in that zone where you can see for miles and your eyes become magnifying glasses you will perform a masterpiece.  The Japanese have a word for it, when an artist reaches a point of zen, I forget what it is.

For the most part I shy away from hyper-realism because I see it as replication and not real creativity but in this case I must make an exception.

    Thanks for sharing it.

Here is one of my tattoo designs:

  3. One of the artist`s pieces was on the cover of Discover magazine last year. I had a few discussions with people about how they were created. Some said it was a computer generated image, but I followed through & found out who the artist was (on the inside cover page) & went to search for him on the tubes. I was very surprised at his works. Thanks for bringing him up again. To those who haven`t watched the videos, I recommend them just for the almost shocking realism regardless of their scale.

How do you find this stuff buhdy?

This mans sculptures are so very realistic. There are artists who do similar work, only on a very tiny scale…I’ve seen them at eBay called ‘reborn dolls’ or ‘fairy dolls’. Some are wee tiny babies that will fit in the palm of your hand yet they look so realistic its scarey.

    An amazing find buhdy, thanks!

  4. in the house?

I’d like to commission a piece.  I’ll do the basic design and you can tweak it and pick out the colors.  It will go at the top of my new barn/studio.

I believe the dimensions will be 22″ wide by 60″ tall.

i’d type more but those eyes are freaking me out and my computer seems to be a bit slow right now

    loved the stuff though

  5. takes patience.

  6. reminds me somewhat of the school of painting that is hyper-realism, or something like that, but the way he plays around with scale is so much more interesting and evocative.

My sister is actually an artist who works with latex. I just sent this to her. I’ll be curious to see what she thinks.

Certain things about this also amaze me, besides the realism factor – for example, the sheer patience he had to punch those hairs into the arm of that man. Wow. The last time I saw something that made me realize I would never have the patience to do that was seeing what archaeologists really do in the field.

Great art diary. Thanks for sharing.

It was also interesting to play those two videos at the same time….

  7. my art and I’m late to the party as usual. Oh well, I’ll just talk to myself a little bit here.
I’ve been an amateur woodturner for about the last ten years and I think I might be getting good enough to start actually selling some of my decorative bowls. At least that’s what my parents tell me.
If anybody does happen to see these pics, please give me a little feedback because I would reaaly like to know what others, besides friends and family, think of them.
These first 3 pics are ones that I donated to yearly kos. These are the first that I have sold “professionally” and I thought they did pretty good. It felt really good to donate them, but it sure would have been nice to have that money for myself.

After those sold I had an idea for those pieces of birdeye maple I’d been saving.

I’ve also been experimenting with open segment turning.

In the works right now is a 14″dia. open curved segment bowl. It will be much like the last pic except the lid will be made of the curved segments like pic 1 with spaces. It’s starting to get a little dangerous right now trying to keep everything from flying apart.
So, whaddya think. Any art critics out there?
