I Am Sick to Death of War and Madness

(10 pm – promoted by ek hornbeck)

My generation thought Vietnam was an aberration, but it wasn’t, it was the game plan.  Lie your way into a nasty little war and let other people’s children do the killing and dying while the fat cats at the top of the capitalist pile rake in the dough.  It’s all for the benefit of those so bloated with greed that they just don’t care that their profits come soaked in the blood of innocents and patriots.

truth-of-vietnam

I was raised the son of a soldier, 21 years Army Infantry.  I have great affection and regard for our service men and women, which is all the more reason to be furious at their cruel mistreatment and shoddy utilization.

Nearly 4,000 American service men and women have died for no good reason in Iraq since our wrongheaded and distinctly criminal invasion in 2003 (not to mention a million Iraqis).  How hard must it be to face the fact that your loved one didn’t die to protect the world from anything, that they died for no noble purpose, not to preserve freedom or democracy, not for any righteous cause – but for nothing…nothing worth dying for at any rate?  How hard must that be?

They died for the sole purpose of making already wealthy men even wealthier.  It is evil.  It is pure evil.

And yes, the swastikas fit.

We’ve Seen This All Before

Our government may not yet be as bad as, but they are certainly no better than – the Nazis.  It’s time to overcome our sensitivities about the comparison and face the fact that we have seen all of this before.

Our government has blatantly practiced aggressive war, kidnapping, torture, and murder…and you could probably add genocide to that list if you were to ask the Iraqis – or the Afghans.  Genocide is so often in the eye of the beholder after all.

They have so closely patterned the ‘homeland’ after the fatherland, so faithfully mimicked the tactics and strategy of the Reich, imposed a strikingly similar police state complete with loyalty pledges, free-speech zones, extraordinary renditions and secret prisons where torture and cruelty are the norm and prisoners are held incommunicado without rights or access to legal redress, that one might be forgiven for speculating that they planned it just that way.

Tell me Karl Rove didn’t study Goebbles.

“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.”

Joseph Goebbels

Of course the Bush/Nazi connection goes back quite a ways.

How Bush’s grandfather helped Hitler’s rise to power

Rumours of a link between the US first family and the Nazi war machine have circulated for decades. Now the Guardian can reveal how repercussions of events that culminated in action under the Trading with the Enemy Act are still being felt by today’s president

Ben Aris in Berlin and Duncan Campbell in Washington

Saturday September 25, 2004

The Guardian

George Bush’s grandfather, the late US senator Prescott Bush, was a director and shareholder of companies that profited from their involvement with the financial backers of Nazi Germany.

The Guardian has obtained confirmation from newly discovered files in the US National Archives that a firm of which Prescott Bush was a director was involved with the financial architects of Nazism.

His business dealings, which continued until his company’s assets were seized in 1942 under the Trading with the Enemy Act, has led more than 60 years later to a civil action for damages being brought in Germany against the Bush family by two former slave labourers at Auschwitz and to a hum of pre-election controversy.

(continued at the Guardian)

I know this comes as no news but it is often dismissed too lightly.  No one is eager to acknowledge that our situation is as perilous as that of the good Germans as the Nazis came marching in…but it is.

It is tempting to hold out hope that things are really not that bad…but they are.

Would having a Democrat in office make it better?  Not necessarily.  I find it painful to point out that the Democrats have surrendered the moral high ground without a fight.  Theories as to why abound, but it is clear that they have done just that.  We should not be fooled.  Our government is against us, and it is no longer fair to make distinctions between Republicans and Democrats except in rare individual cases.  The vast majority of all our politicians of both parties are corrupt or otherwise compromised and are now in thrall to the corporatist military-industrial-congressional-media complex.  They are no longer on our side…if they ever were.

What we are headed for is a brutal fascistic rule of the super rich enforced on the impoverished masses by heavily armed thugs operating under color of law…though there are those here who will tell you that it can’t happen here.  If we believe that, it will be our epitaph.

This has all happened on our watch people.  I know we’ve been lied to, manipulated and betrayed – but it still falls on us to do something about it.

The Democrats are not going to be our salvation.  I wish that weren’t true – but it is.  It is strictly up to us.  Put your faith in the American people – they, we, are our last and only hope.  We must stand up to the monsters who have done this to our country, and we must take it back from them.  We are the only true owners of this nation.  It’s time to act up America.

Time-to-lose-patience

Soldiers are taught that when caught in a deadly ambush with nowhere to run or hide, you must charge the ambush.  It is a case of the best defense being a good offense.  We need to rise up, not stand down.  We need to resist the fascism.  We need to charge the ambush.

Our choices have come down to two:  we can knuckle under, or we can stand up.  And EVERYTHING depends on our standing up.

CodePinkConfrontsCondoleezza_2

Get ready for the biggest anti-Bush demonstration yet.  Get ready for March 19 in Washington DC!  We need numbers people.  We need feet in the street.  We need you to put your money where your mouth is.  We don’t need any more false patriots.  We don’t need any more blatherers and bloviators.  We don’t need any more keyboard commandos.  We don’t need any more rightwingers posing as progressives.

We need heroes in the streets!

And we need to impeach these fucking criminals.

Let’s face it, if you oppose impeachment at this point in our history, either you have a reason I haven’t heard yet, you’re a clueless wonder…or you are a fucking traitor.

Rise-Up-America

If you can’t afford to fly, take a bus.  If you can’t afford a bus, drive, come with a friend or hitch a ride.  Do whatever you have to do to make it to DC on March 19.  Start making your plans now.  This is more important than Netroots Nation (IMHO) and if you can’t do both, I recommend coming to the March 19 Mass Demonstration where every added person will make a difference.

Don’t get me wrong, I support Netroots Nation and I had a blast at YearlyKos, and I love this community but it’s time to take it to the streets people.

It’s up to us to turn it around America.  No one’s going to do it for us.

Damn the neocons I say, full speed ahead progressive America.  Let there be finally and truthfully in this beloved land, liberty and justice for all.

Been without a net connection since the first.  Missed y’all.  Good to be back.

It just hasn’t been the same without your feeling provoking pictures, and words.

    Welcome back.

  1. to the wisdom of my…oldth…..War SUCKS!

We can never let folks forget that The Nuremberg trials and commision ruked that waging aggressive war is the number one war crime, the one all others stem from. And there can be NO doubt that George “the Torturer” Bush committed that one.

Thanks for the heads up on the march, let’s push it as hard as we can here!

  2. … you devil, you!  ðŸ™‚

Excellent call to action.  I’m going to see if I can get to Washington on the 18th.

  3. everything you talk about fron and center in our national dialog. The squeaky wheel gets oiled. During the unreal  insanity raging in the priaries I watched the other night ‘Born on the Fouth of July’ a real life story, movie about Viet Nam and the American psyche. It was heartbreaking and depressing to watch with the backdrop of now.

I cannot believe that were doing it again and no one seems willing to listen or look or talk. Instead I hear likable, change, tears, he said she said, my feeling are hurt, everybody unite. Politics as usual!

I cannot make it. Why is there not a national coordinating of these events, high profile marches in cities like at the beginning of this war? While there are various local activities none seem designed or planned to really be effective and large. I will bully my nieces and nephews on the east coat to go and I’ll be supportive in any way i can. Even if the west coast had major cities, Calif? I could make it those, but not the east coast.

Glad to see you I’e been missing you in this madness.

  4. I’ve been missing the OPOL brand of inspiration 🙂

So much work and so little time….I’ll be seeing you in March.

  5. about you. Thanks again another inspiring diary.

  6. proud papa….and taking NO credit….and truth be told apropos of nothing…

But currently half of the rec list at Dkos is made up of folks from DD!

Just had to post that somewhere!

and happy new year! Glad to see you are still PO’d!!

    See you in March.

  7. How are you?  I am not fine.

You’ve given war and madness a chance for 5000 years, maybe it’s time to give peace and justice a chance.

    Your friend,

    Rusty

P.S.  Listen to OPOL!  How many times does he have to say this?  WTF?  Are you DEAF?

  8. Personally, I think the Bushies have a very good handle on the Nazi regime (probably did a great study of it, afterall, their daddy and granddaddy was Prescott) and exactly how they orchestrated their take-over and if people are really paying attention, you will see the courses followed that seem to echo those of the Nazis.  Naomi Klein, I think, was very clear about this, as well.

Hope that I can make it to D.C., but it has a lot of dependent factors involved in order for me to do so.  But, it’s certainly my will.

    • Bikemom on January 12, 2008 at 04:46

is there still a war going on?  You wouldn’t know it from the MSM (including you know where)!  I wonder what’s going on in Iraq these days – message control is very good and all the news is very spiffy and shiny these days – I guess all our front runners benefit from this… (I can say that here…right?).

    All the best

    • pfiore8 on January 12, 2008 at 05:18

raises the hairs on the back of my neck…

but more importantly, if we can just take a moment aside from all that… hello and happy new year. good to see you back!

  9. I’ll see what I can do about being in DC on the 19th.  Hope to see you there!

  10. “war” I sure as hell would be working my ass off to prove the

connection between the corporations, who are raking in huge

bucks, and the bushcos.  I would then sue their asses off and

get every other family who’s lost a family member to sue their asses off

and then I’d get the American public to sue their asses off.

Isn’t it about time we start hitting them in the only place

they’ll feel it?  It’s their pocketbooks!  The only

thing they truly care about.  Oh, and lots of prison time!

Really glad you’re back OPOL 😉

    • Temmoku on January 12, 2008 at 23:35

I’ve missed reading your outrage….glad you are back!

I’m not sure much can be done about this war…I was protesting in chicago before it started andpeople were telling me that no one knew that saddam didn’t have WMDs….I KNEW! If anyone had been paying any attention, they KNEW…. Now the corpoations are in for the big profit grab…it will be hard to extricate…but we must try…something, anything.

  11. Thanks for always speaking your mind — and the truth.

Hope to make it on March 19 — and see you there.

    • Bikemom on January 13, 2008 at 05:08

    I wonder where we could find someone good at graphic design :}

  12. I do stand with you….

if we stand together we will not be moved….

    if….

    1. ….and taking NO credit….

      part!

  13. what others are thinking so well OPOL and do it in a way that leaves us with hope instead of fatalism.

  14. And needed as much as anything that is on the tuubz. So many people say “Oh yeah, I believe” and go get a cup of Starbucks and forget what it is that they are supposed to be believing in, what it is that they are supposed to be outraged by, where their energy should really be directed. You leave no doubt what so ever, you cut to the chase in a manner that energizes everyone who encounters your work. More than all the words by all the fine writers on all the great blogs, your passion energizes people and wakes them from their lives of apathy and self interest. I speak from my own apathetic holding in the realm of responsibility, as much as I speak for others, people who I know, that read your work.

Hyperbole? NOT! I note the many fine writers above me in the comment thread, and they all say much the same.

Saving our country, and ourselves, cannot remain an intellectual exercise, it has to be an impassioned crusade, or there will no tomorrow, no hope, no justice. Thoughts with no energy, no passion, are the thoughts of dilettantes: the sugary flowers pasted onto the cake of pablum that is fed by the MSM to the “Good Americans”. The couch potatoes HAVE to wipe their faces of the sugary crap they are fed and wake up, or the country, and the world, will truly be doomed to one of the many nightmares making the rounds. The only way to wake them up is throw enough energy their way that they can’t sit still, that they have to get up and get involved.

It has only been since the first of this year that you haven’t been around? It seems like so much longer. Welcome back. And if I can pinch enough pennies, I’ll make it from my home north of Seattle to meet and greet in D.C.

Be well.  Peaceout back at ‘cha       JIm

  15. This was posted on the blog of our guru of impeachment –NOT.

It’s sadly pathetic. A man that was so revered in 2005 will be remembered for this: a pitiful loser. All of his own doing with no one to blame but himself.
