This is short for a diary but I had to share.

Today s Sunday and this is the day that Gun Shows like to reserve for their displays. A gun Show is a swap meet/ flea market for gun nuts. Once a month, there is a Gun Show in Northern Illinois for all the gun “aficionados” to buy/sell/swap their wares to other gun crazies.

My Husband is a gun nut. He is a member of the NRA and has been since he was a teen. He is also a Veteran, serving in Korea in 1969 as a Medic. he is also a card carrying member of the Democratic Party and the ACLU and has been for all his adult life.

He decides to go to a Gun Show today wearing his VFW hat and a very large Obama button. I tried to talk him out of it…I didn’t want him to get arrested…the show is near the DuPage County Offices.

But since I have never been able to talk sense to him, he went. (Better than watching another interview with John McCain on the talking heads!)

About 2 hours later he arrives home laughing…He says he walked in and the crowds parted for him like the Red Sea for Moses! They were in awe!  (I thought maybe it was because he is 6’6″ but he doesn’t notice his height anymore.)

A couple of guys wanted to start something.

One asked: “How can you support that Mooslim?”

He answered: “Muslim? What Muslim? His father abandoned him when he was two and he was raised by white people!”

Another guy said: “The Dems are going to take your guns away!”

He answered: “The Dems aren’t going to take anyone’s guns! You’re a dumb shit!”

So the guy gets angry and makes like he’s going to come out from behind his table when another fellow runs over and says: ” Don’t do anything! Anybody who comes to a gun show in DuPage County wearing an Obama button is not someone you want to mess with!”

So my husband did not end up in jail, nor did he get his clock cleaned. But he was able to enjoy himself at another gun show…
