Mukasey Won’t Enforce Congressional Contempt Citations

In his Stars Hollow Gazette, ek hornbeck provides this link about AG Mukasey saying he would not enforce contempt citations

here’s the summary…

Rep. Dave Wexler (R-FL) asked… If Congress passed a citation against White House chief of staff Josh Bolten, who, along with former White House counsel Harriet Miers and Karl Rove, refused to show up when subpoenaed by Congress as part of the U.S. attorneys investigation — would the DoJ enforce it?

Mukasey’s simple answer was “no.” Enforcing the contempt citation is “not permitted when the president directs a direct adviser of his, somebody who directly advises him, not to appear or when he directs any member of the executive not to produce document.”

At the end of the exchange, Wexler says “thank you.” Really. That’s not what I would have said.

Hey. ek has some great links in the Gazette. It’s an open thread, so pop in and bring some rage with you.

And when you’re there at the Gazette, tell me… what do YOU think the Democrats will do about this.

Thank you… and have a nice day.

this is more important than waterboarding or admitting to torture

this is a barometer of Congress and its will to uphold the law… any fucking law.

this is the game here. if they don’t clamp down on the AG or impeach  him for his refusal to act on the citations, then it’s clear we are being hosed by Democrats.

and i don’t give a shit about the election. PEOPLE have given congress the lowest approval rating in history because they HAVEN’T acted against Bush.

    i think this is clear.

    …Mukasey has impeached Congress?

won’t do what the legislative branch (who make the law, btw) wants… why in hell should the legislative branch (who has the ultimate and final say, btw) do what the executive demands?

    Murtha prepares war bill

A top Democrat said Thursday he is preparing legislation that would give President Bush the war funding he wants this year, but on the condition that troops leave Iraq by the end of the year.

Rep. John Murtha, D-Pa., chairman of the House defense appropriations subcommittee, said he’ll propose that the House vote this March on the spending measure. In addition to the troop withdrawal, he said he’ll ask for other conditions such as that all deploying troops must be fully trained and equipped.

Murtha, speaking to reporters following a speech to the Center for Strategic and International Studies, said he’s confident this bill would pass the House, but he’s not sure about the Senate.

Bush has requested about $189 billion for military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. Congress has approved only about $87 billion, leaving the Defense Department $102.5 billion short for this budget year, which began Oct. 1.

  1. I more or less responded on Turkana’s essay.

Notice how fascist efforts seem to be speeding up?
