It’s Time for US to Clamp Down On The Media

I watched Obama give one of the greatest speeches I have ever heard today. In a week from Hell. When we barely escaped the collapse of Wall Street while still not addressing the needs of Main Street. I watched a man stand tall and draw a line in the sand with diplomatic skills unseen in American politics in my lifetime. I watched a man stand by a friend, while making it absolutely clear that even though ‘context is everything’ some of Wright’s statements were completely unacceptable. I watched a man I want to be my President.

In his 35 minute speech Obama was more honest in confronting the fact that racism is in our past and our present but that it has no place in our future as we stare down the problems facing this country. He named them. We all know what they are.

And what has the media done in response? The same media that DID NOT REPORT ON THE FINANCIAL CRISIS UNTIL IT SEEMED SAFE TO DO SO – a clear example of state censorship –  they are busy pounding away at meaningless drivel about Wright in an attempt to garner ratings while smearing this man – a great man.

I say it time to tell them to stop.

In my experience and by now you all know I’ve had a lot of media experience – there is but one thing and only one thing that works and works well.

CALL YOUR CABLE OPERATOR.

TELL YOUR CABLE OPERATOR YOU ARE DROPPING THIER SERVICE COMPLETELY IF CABLE NETWORKS SUCH AS FOX AND CNN CONTINUE TO REPORT A STORY THAT IS NOT RELEVANT TO THIS ELECTION

TELL YOU CABLE OPERATOR YOU ARE GIVING THEM 24 HOURS TO GET THOSE TAPES OF WRIGHT SCREAMING OFF THE AIR OR YOU ARE DROPPING THEM AND NEVER COMING BACK

Each of us is worth a minimum of $3000 – that is right – three thousand dollars a year – to your cable operator. I don’t need to know what your bill is. This number is based upon different metrics. But it is a real number.

With the consolidation in the industry most of us are either Conmcast, Time Warner – they own 60% of the industry. So this time consolidation works in our favor.

50 calls is the magic number to trigger fear and cause a supervisor in customer service to alert someone in the Programming department that a ‘serious event’ is taking place. Why?  50 x $3000 = $150,000. Take that out ten years – that is what they do and you are looking at 1.5 million in lost revenue. Only 50 calls. Certainly we can do that.

The result: the cable operator will complain to the programmer (Fox CNN) and that is the only voice they listen to

I would provide you the number to call – but it is on your bill. If you believe like I believe that the media has a responsibility to present fair and unbiased journalisim – make that call.

Thanks

  1. The only television I get comes over the airwaves and picked up by rabbit ears… and now the government is taking that away.

  2. …and then forwarded it with massive apologies (’cause forwarding political speeches, even great ones, is evil) to damn near my whole list of friends.  Gore is a better speaker among major political figures, when he’s on fire (Cooper Union); Angela Davis is a better speaker in her sleep; but I’ve never seen anything comparable from a presidential candidate  except RFK (and I was four, so my knowledge is all tapes and reels).  It was stunning.

It may bring him down, because the one thing we cannot abide is the truth, and that was the damn truth.  But if it does…the whole thing was almost worth it, to have america hear that.

  3. its feeling mighty peculiar and I am feeling quite out of the loop so signing off.good night all

  4. from the comments.Come on ya’ll – trust is all we have and right now mine is shaken.

  5. I just did a quick run through of quite a few opinion posts about his speech today. Most notable were both Andrew Sullivan and The Wall Street Journal – neither bring representative of progressive liberalism.

Both pieces pointed out the sad liklihood that Obama – clearly the best candidate – may loose. Not based upon his qualifications. Not because of Hillary’s dirty tricks. But because of white racism.

As a white supporter of his, I can honestly say that if this comes to pass, I will suffer no regrets about leaving this country for it will get all that it deserves. Amen.

  6. How is dropping cable tv going to stop the media, when they just rebroadcast the feed, we should be calling cnn, etc and telling THEM that we will drop cable tv.

  7. This is NOT about me. It is about waking up this morning to see that The Daily Kos Number One Recommended Diary is about the SWIFT BOATING of Obama and what to do about it with a call to action. It has over a couple hundred responses and is growing rapidly as it is being promoted upwards still.

This diary called your attention to the exact subject days ago, offered a very specific and easy tactic to combat it. 15 people read it.And my guess it under 4 took any action at all.

I read your diaries.I listen to your requests to take action to YELL LOUDER. And I TAKE ACTION. And yet this request was buried.

As I said I am very disappointed.

  8. from me.It comes from TMP and its a crying shame

I’m not at all surprised that Obama has dropped in the past couple of weeks and I think it speaks to one of the structural problems in the race right now. The conservative movement has laid into Obama hard on the Wright controversy, and the organized left (e.g., blogs, pundits, party leaders, activists) have not fought back in a collective sense
