Tonight’s ‘Funkalicious Friday’ is presented with my sincerest apologies to ‘K9K’ and ‘BD’…I’m not fit to hold your usb cables….
So in the spirit of filling in on someone else’s funkalicious time slot….and with full awareness of my own lack of funkaliciousness….tonight’s installment will be dedicated to cover songs.
Dylan wrote it, Jimi rocked it….
Garth Brooks covers Kiss’ ‘Hard Luck Woman’…in this version, Kiss backs him up…
And, hey, if country stars can cover rock tunes, then Live can cover Johnny Cash, right? “Walk the Line”…
You just KNEW there would be some Live in here, right?
Johnny Cash can give as good as he gets…here he covers the Nine Inch Nails song “Hurt”
I like this one a little more than i probably should….it’s the band Me First and the Gimme Gimmes covering “Rainbow Connection”. They also do an ass-kicking cover of “I Believe I Can Fly”, which I’ll save for another day…
You can’t not love the Shat, “Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds”
(If a person could be reincarnated as a cover song….as a cover song that was performed in the same space-time as the incaration he/she is being reincarnated from…then i would want to be this next song.)
Toad the Wet Sprocket covers “Ziggy Stardust”
Here, The Red Hot Chili Peppers (of whom I’m not fond) cover the Bee Gees (whom I love absolutely). “How Deep Is Your Love”
And, finally,
M.C. the Max covers Sublime’s “Santeria”
Well, I got the ‘Friday’ half of Funkalicious Friday….the ‘funk’ part i’m not the best source for. I hope i didnt spoil your weekend or anything 😉

it’s the frickin’ frackin’ weekend!!!
if someone wants to remind me how to make the vids smaller (or, if youve got the “authority”, do so yourself), ill be happy to edit the essay and un-biggen them)
it reminds of being with my step kids and singing along to brown eyed girl… my step daughter was looking at me funny and finally asked… how do you know that song... and then, w/o missing a beat said, oh it’s a cover isn’t it?
to make the vids smaller…
object width =”425″ height=”355″ occurs at the beginning and end of the vid code.
change it to: object width =”250″ in both places
h/t Edger!!!
would have the cojones to pretend at being a real Friday night worth talking about, without…
Honky Tonk Women!
Cover of a ______song, and what else happened between the two?
I got to see Jimi play at Boston Garden in the spring of ’69 about ten feet from the stage just a little to his left. With a healthy load on. ;-);-);-) I was jaw-dropped staring at his fingers blurring over the strings, looked up at his face and he was looking at me looking at him.
Lifetime moment.
and this one…
Does that count?
Eric and Cheryl cover Jimi
Armatrading, live:
Bootsy baby!
and another fantastic Hendrix cover.
SRV
…covering George Harrison’s Beware of Darkness earlier this evening. 🙂
…at the Baltimore Civic Center…May of 1969 and June of 1970!
The 1969 gig was the Saturday before Mothers Day (the next day). Noel Redding acknowledged Mothers Day and said, (as close as my “foggy” memory can recall):
“So, tomorrow is Mothers Day. And so if any of you chickies out there want to become mothers, just come back stage.”
Ah, yes, those were the days.
