Tibet was “not “Shangrila: Rare film from 1950’s

I thought I would post this today so that DharmaBums will have some knowledge of historical conditions in Tibet.

Some will say, “But it’s from CCTV, therefore it is propaganda.”

Watch and judge for yourself.

The 25 minute documentary includes rare archived film footage from the 1950’s and recent follow up interviews with survivors that are seen in the film.

Links below the fold, please watch Parts 1 and 2 and then discuss in comments if you like.

but I won’t spoil it for you.

  1. lol

I never had the slightest belief that Tibet was ever “Shangrila.”

But then again, I’ve already stated my objection to viewing the problems of Tibet in this fashion.

I hope that the Chinese leadership will meet with the Dalai Lama and the violence will stop.

And I hope that the culture of Tibet whose fruits so many in the West are now finding of value can be saved.

  2. But I don’t get your point.

    Shangrila IS mythical.

Should every place that is not Shangrila be “liberated?”

    Like say….Iraq?
