The clip is a big timesaver to help get quickly up to speed on what to expect from an Obama presidency, without having to do days of research, which most people don’t have the time to do.
but he essentially reinforces Halberstam’s thesis that really smart politicians can do really stupid things.
That’s why I discount Obama’s education and intelligence.
I’m only interested in his character and, if he’s got any, wisdom.
Gareth Porter has been around since the Vietnam War era. My respect for him continues to grow. Great analysis of the American political system with regard to the resource wars. I have to agree with him. It’s not going to change much. No president will dare, as he says “go down in flames” bucking the system.
Thanks Edger and kudos to The Real News and Pepe Escobar for bringing this to us.
but Gareth Porter did an excellent job of refuting the details of the “Hue Massacre” during Tet in 1968.
If anyone is interested in the history of that period, the details and his report can be found here.
Media Matters and Josh and the crew at Talking Points Memo and the good old McClatchy Gang. Without these people I wouldn’t have any real news.
But most of all, for right out front, in your face reality – Bill Moyers Journal. It is absolute must see TV. All of the news provided by real news sources gets an incredibly insightful analysis on that show every week. I am totally shocked that it’s still allowed to air in this day and age. I only caught the end of last night’s show. It was an excellent debunking of the Blue/Red myth we’ve been fed all our lives.
This staying informed takes a lot of work and a finely tuned bullshit filter. I’m still a bit leery of the Real News due to the slick production quality. Where does their major funding come from? Apart from that, I haven’t seen anything overtly “off”. I guess I’d rather be a little hesitant now and proved wrong later than too gullible up front and just go for the total buy-in.
Such is life in the third eon.
