Writing in the Raw….and the outfield moves in….

But don’t worry, I’m not insulted.  I’d be the first one to tell you that I’m a terrible choice for hostessing Writing in the Raw.  “No batter” indeed…

And although I’ve had months to ponder the concept, I have nothing to say, and even less inclination to do so.  There hasn’t been a reasonable, coherent, or relevant thought in my head for quite some time now.  It’s been lovely.

So having committed to hostessing this installment of Writing in the Raw, and finding myself with nothing to write……….

The following is a user-made video of the FloBots song ‘Handlebars’, which provides the lyrics.  The original video can be found here, with embedding disabled.  This version, with the lyrics, actually serves our purposes better anyway.

(oh, shit…i just implied a purpose, didn’t i.  d’oh)

So, yeah, technically we’re listening in the raw tonight.  I’m sure the song is a wonderful example of someone’s writing, but that’s still only secondary to the incredible performance and production of the song, which is what makes it the little slice of magic that I hope you’re paying attention to, and not reading this 😉

And while I will admit that I still usually giggle at the “I can take apart the remote control, and I can almost put it back together” line, I get the more serious implication of that metaphor.  An apt comparison, sadly.

The artist’s video, the one you can find at the supplied link, seems to be more a condemnation of corporate culture than of governmental, though I’m pretty hard pressed to find the line between them these days.  If you happen to know where that line is, please do enlighten me in the comments.  Please.

So, yeah, I committed to providing you with an installment of ‘Writing in the Raw’…but I never did commit to providing my own writing.  And while I’m tempted to apologize for that, I feel like the apology would be even MORE necessary had I actually written something.  Trust me, this is muuuuuuch bettah…

due to storms in my area which have intermittently left me without internet access and then some funky attitude problems with my computer itself, i have now typed this essay 3 times.  the universe’s repeated attempts to stop me from posting be dammned….i’m cliking save and hoping for the best….

  3. i hide behind being a commenter, after all you guys need the audience. Hard work putting ones self out there week after week some day after day. The video said it all. Much better = what? This is fine. Hard to say where the net leaves off and you begin, do they effect each other you would have to be nuts to be able to hold them separate. Oh I forgot we are all crazy.
