KO: Heroes and Speeches

Uggghhh. It is a sad day when people on the Left turn against Keith Olbermann for any reason.

KO is one of the sole voices pissing into the hurricane/tsunami of disinformation and neo-con propaganda from the Murdoch Empire and all Minions Fox and elsewhere… and people ask him to stop his Editorials.

These are the same People who attacked Reverend Wright for speaking Truths in this country.

If Obama stayed Obama, a man who admired Rev. Wright, he would not be losing ground via handlers and media-whores.

Why is it that people are uncomfortable with Truths? Oh they claim to want Truth, as long as it doesn’t interfere with their TV pleasure viewing the Opening Ceremonies of the Olympic games, the grandiose hoopla and the shiny young athletes.

America likes its Public Service Announcements snuggled in minute sound bytes during the breaks of their obsessive American Idol episodes… it makes their guilty pleasure of being brainless hedonists ease up a little to be able to yell “Right On” at a commercial that says “Green Power”.. all while turning up their Air Conditioning and keeping the volume on their TV’s cranked up to Prime Numbers.

But WATCH a whole documentary or turn off the TV and read a book about it?  Too depressing, man. They don’t want a bowl of whole-grain truths, when they can sprinkle a little fiber on their processed Sugar Puffs.

How come in fictions, even film fictions like “The Contender” an American Politician can stand against the tide and do/say the Right Thing on Principle?

Napoleon once said when asked to explain the lack of great statesmen in the world, that “to get power you need to display absolute pettiness; to exercise power, you need to show true greatness.” Such pettiness and greatness are rarely found in one person… Laine Hanson has asked that I allow her to step aside. She asked me to do this because she wants my presidency to end on a note of triumph and not controversy. Understand, those of you who worked to bring Laine Hanson down, that she asked to have her name withdrawn from consideration, NOT because she isn’t great, but because she isn’t petty. Because those two forms of leadership traits could not live in her body or her soul. Greatness. It comes in many forms, sometimes it comes in the form of sacrifice – that’s the loneliest form.

Why can only writers invent men with spines, men and women who stand and speak to truth, stand bravely and firmly for justice?

Some heroes do.

Rev Wright said:

“America is still the No. 1 killer in the world. . . . We are deeply involved in the importing of drugs, the exporting of guns, and the training of professional killers . . . We bombed Cambodia, Iraq and Nicaragua, killing women and children while trying to get public opinion turned against Castro and Ghadhafi . . . We put [Nelson] Mandela in prison and supported apartheid the whole 27 years he was there. We believe in white supremacy and black inferiority and believe it more than we believe in God.”

KO said:

Sen. McCain spoke out against that very bill last May on the asinine premise that the rewards to our heroes were so good that it didn’t encourage them to stay in the service. Or perhaps force them. More over, Sen. McCain missed 10 of the 14 Senate votes on Iraq up to the middle of last year. This year, he has missed them all including one to honor the sacrifice of the fallen.

He has voted to table or oppose:

   * $20 million for veteran’s health care facilities

   * $322 million for safety equipment for our troops in Iraq

   * $430 million for veterans outpatient care

   * $1 billion in new equipment for the National Guard

And, in separate votes:

   * $1,500,000,000 in additional Veterans’ medical care, to be created by closing tax loopholes

   * $1,800,000,000  in additional Veterans’ medical care, to be created by closing tax loopholes

And yet, Sir, you have the audacity to stand in front of the very Veterans you repeatedly and consistently sell out, and claim it is your opponent who has put politics first, and country second.

Someone had to counter the “I support our troops” propaganda that the Right lies about. If KO had not, who would?

Then to counter the “readiness” factor smeared by McCain with Georgia as example:

The Georgians have paid Mr. Scheunemann and his companies 800-thousand dollars over the last several years to lobby for them. It’s pretty clear the Georgians have bought Mr. Scheunemann. And, Sen. McCain, it sure as hell looks like the Georgians thought they had bought you.

When you had the tastelessness to paraphrase the rallying cry of 9/11 and say that we are now all Georgians, that nation’s President called you out. He said that your words were very nice, but he needed action not a verbal receipt from a lobbyist and his pet Senator!

Uncomfortable truth, yes? And yet some would silence this, ask him to not opine due to losing power by repetition?

The cold fact is this: If you haven’t the attention span to realize there IS an overload of wrongs in this Country, an overload of UNCOMFORTABLE TRUTHS and you haven’t the fortitude to see them addressed… perhaps Politics is too grown up for you. America’s Best Dancer is on somewhere.

Let me say, the World needs MORE KO’s, More Reverend Wrights, more furious heroes that speak out often and righteously against the state of this nation, the state of this world.

I am glad The Wild Wild Left is full of everyday heroes. I am glad Dd is too.

I for one, say RAGE MORE.

I for one, say even if the ADD in America cannot withstand looking into the Ugly Mirror in anything larger than microscopic doses, Rage On, it is bound to soak in somewhere…. and if you do NOT… if you do not speak against the tide, it will wash any protest away.
