My 18 yo Son Lost His Virginity Yesterday! (And I Watched!!!)

(Just a short one, crossposted from D-Kos)

Yep, he did!  Zach turned 18 this past June.   And yesterday, at lunch, I picked him up from the house and we went to the precinct at our nearby middle school.  There, my son voted in his first election as a registered voter!

“It’s just a primary,” some might say, but I know as well as every person here that every election is important.  And Zach, intrigued by the process, is just discovering this as well.  Seems the election workers somehow knew that this was his first vote, congratulated him and helped him through the process.

He voted (Dem, he told me) and picked up his ‘I Voted” sticker.

He looked proud to vote, to contribute, to raise his voice in a way that counted.  What he did mattered, and taking him to his old middle school to vote helped to not only bring that home, but to let him see for himself that he has grown.

And I’m proud of him, too.  Not just that he voted, but that he was the one who remembered to ask about Absentee Ballots (something I’d forgotten about).  In the fall he’s off to an out-of-state school, but he wants to vote back here.  I picked up the forms today and we’ll fill them out tomorrow.  I’ll send them in when the time comes.

He’s a good kid, and proud to call himself a liberal.

And I’m a proud dad, grateful to have another voice calling for sanity and reason in our country.

November’s right around the corner, and the ranks are growing everyday…yesterday they grew by one that I know of.

Glad to see it.  Every little bit helps.

Cheers all!
