Twelve men recruited in Nepal died after forced transfer to Iraq, lawfirm says
Thirteen Nepali men were recruited and held against their will for thirteen months in a human trafficking scheme engineered and perpetrated by Halliburton and its Jordanian contractor, according to a lawsuit filed yesterday in California federal court.
The Nepali men, each between the ages of 18 and 27, were allegedly hired as kitchen staff by the then-Halliburton subsidiary KBR and its Jordanian subcontractor, Daoud & Partners. Once they arrived in Jordan, however, their passports were seized and they were dispatched to Iraq.
of the basis for the split in my thinking about Obama. When it comes to on-the-ground specifics that he talks about, I’m not that sold. Its when I look at things from an overview of how he does things that I’ve been impressed. And, of all people, Andrew Sullivan nailed a piece of that for me.
What he didn’t do was give an airy, abstract, dreamy confection of rhetoric. The McCain campaign set Obama up as a celebrity airhead, a Paris Hilton of wealth and elitism. And he let them portray him that way, and let them over-reach, and let them punch him again and again … and then he turned around and destroyed them. If the Rove Republicans thought they were playing with a patsy, they just got a reality check.
There’s something about how this man thinks strategically that has always fascinated me.
p.s….in preview, the vid looks ok, but ive never embedded from comedy central before, and some of the script was a little squirrelly…. hope all goes well….
DAYTON, Ohio — A mother was convicted Friday of killing her month-old daughter by burning her in a microwave oven, with jurors rejecting a defense attorney’s claims there was evidence that someone else was responsible.
China Arnold, 28, showed no reaction when the jury’s verdict was announced and then lowered her head, looking down at the defense table. Relatives in the courtroom cried and covered their faces with their hands. They later left the courthouse without commenting.

Prosecutors said Arnold intentionally put her baby in the microwave oven and cooked the child to death after a fight with her boyfriend.
Arnolds’ cellmate testified that Arnold confessed to putting the baby in the microwave and turning it on because she was worried her boyfriend would leave her if he found out the child wasn’t his.
The baby’s DNA was found inside the microwave in Arnold’s apartment, prosecutors said.

Republicans are so against affirmative action.
When they wanted a young VP candidate – we got Dan Quayle
When they wanted an African American on the Supreme Court – we got Clarence Thomas
When they wanted a woman VP candidate – we got Sarah Palin
The good old white boys just can’t seem to contemplate competency when they go into that scary land of “other.”
