Midnight Thought on Breaking the Silicon Cage

The key factoid to be used here is the National Petroleum Reserve. 9.1b barrels of oil. As much or more than ANWR (h/t psychbob).

The sharp edge of the ax is the fact that everyone who is persuadable hates oil companies and their bloated profits.

The tie is simple: “9.1b barrels of barrels of the National Petroleum Reserve. As much or more than ANWR. So why do the Oil Companies want ANWR? Is it because they want the price of oil and gas to go down? Why would they want that?

Its because its cheaper to drill in ANWR, so it will give them more profits from the same amount of oil.

Saturday Night McCain McMusic McDump

A musical celebration of John McCain’s disregard for the intellectual property of others.

“In light of Jackson Browne’s lifelong commitment to Democratic ideals and political candidates, the misappropriation of Jackson Browne’s endorsement is entirely reprehensible, and I have no doubt that a jury will agree.”

There’s an important diary up over on DailyKos, posted by Elise, that you all need to read:

I’ve got the opening excerpted after the jump.

Pony Party

Well. There is nothing going on in calico land. While the east coast is getting hit we are enjoying 73 degree weather in Tennessee.

A few random pictures…..

Turkeys in the pasture…. They have figured out that the fence keeps the dogs from chasing them. We have figured out that the dog recognizes the word “turkey”, so the thing to do is say to him “where are the turkeys” and he runs to the door and outside.

One of the great hunters in the household tribe, he brought me a dead snake while I was cooking dinner this week….

P1000063

I think the humming birds have mostly migrated to their winter home but I caught one hanging out…

P1000067

No big plans for me this weekend. I am watching season three of DaVinci’s Inquest courtesy of Netflix. Awesome Canadian show but &*^%$# CBC hasn’t released the other seasons because I think it still might be in syndication somewhere. I am in love with Nicholas Campbell.

Drop by and show me any pictures you have taken recently. Remember don’t rec pony party, hang out chit chat and then go read some of the excellent offerings on our recent and rec’d list.

Echoes: “Country First” and “America First”

cross posted from The Dream Antilles

Cartoon By Dr. Seuss

It’s been more than 65 years.  But the slogan of the RNC and of the McCain Candidacy, “Country First” consciously evokes a slogan from America’s recent, right wing, isolationist, antisemitic past, “America First.”  It’s troubling, and it’s not an accident.  The Republicans might appear at first to be tone deaf. Or maybe they don’t recall history.  But I doubt it.  The phrase “Country First”, echoing “America First”, is a blatant signal to the far right, the very same people to whom the Republicans offered the Palin nomination, that a McCain candidacy shares their extremist ideological goals.
