American News Project reporters interviewing people on the street at a Halloween-day rally for John McCain in Columbus, Ohio, asked McCain supporters a simple question:
…and appear to have revealed some pretty basic primal fears still guiding the “thinking” of a large part of American society.
Yesterday I decided to go take a short web tour through deepest darkest wingnuttia to try to get an idea how people are thinking and feeling over there.
You know, try to get some kind of a handle on how people in the trenches outside the beauty shops over there are feeling and what their thought processes are like as the enormity of the probable results of Tuesdays election sinks into them.
Try to find some cracks in the facade through which some reasonable communication and maybe even reconciliation might actually happen.
My first stop was RedState, where I found this (below the fold) posted today.
Walk a mile in these shoes. Then you decide. I just report.
Big Brobama
RedState, November 01, 2008
As every single person on this earth knows, this week Barack Obama presented what he referred to as his “closing argument” and which is more aptly referred to as an indoctrination infomercial. Only unlike other infomercials, this was prime time, international, and mandatory. Every channel shall display the Obama, every TV shall bow, every world series recess.
Obama’s eerie half hour, part American Idol contestant “package”, part get rich quick seminar (If you vote now we’ll throw in no mortgage payments for ONE FULL YEAR!!!) is not only a perfect summary of the type of campaign the One has waged, it’s a delightful preview into what his four years would look like … namely, an episode of Extreme Makeover: Nation Edition, complete with tears from beginning to end.
If Barack Obama wins on Tuesday, the world will indeed change as promised. We’ll be swimming in elected Democrats. We’ll have card check legislation to enforce a unionocracy across the land, which will in turn dump garbage truck loads of small denomination cash into democratic campaigns. Meaning even more elected democrats in which to swim. We’ll have the Chosen One issuing edicts from atop his mountain of mandate. What would that world look like? I’m glad you asked:
Don’t let Obama happen to you. Get out the
vote.

Thinking.
into wingnuttia as well. Its always good for a few laughs.
Its interesting because I used to think of RedState as the more sane version. But lately when I’ve checked them out – not so much anymore. I guess that’s what happens when everything you’ve believed in crashes in complete failure.
change campaign strategies every five minutes and then like you I go to red state and a few others watching the wing nuts crow about how this strategy is going to knock it out of the park.
Every time McCain’s voice quavers about how Obama wants to “redistribute the wealth” I am thinking Dude why are you campaigning for him…. that sounds like a good idea.

Over the past 6 months I’ve become much less a fan of orange than I once was. One example of how that site’s standards are plummeting is that this diary “The World is Watching” is not on the Rec List and hasn’t been promoted to the Front Page.
And, no, it’s not my diary.
Mu . . .
But it’s a very good example of how that very kind of thinking got us into the mess we’re in from the get-go!
And it was these very kinds of people that Bush/Cheney “played” on and have in their corner.
People like this are truly dangerous to our society — the utter studipity!
I hope you don’t mind, but I think this needs to get populated — everywhere! Just on the offhand chance . . . . . . ! I can’t even say it!

…I Can’t believe any of these folks (well maybe 1 or 2) even graduated from high school. They seem completely devoid of rational thought.
Could we possibly make a diploma a prerequisite for voting? Probably not. But geez, it seems there ought to be some way to protect the society from destructive ignorance.
