The very pointed point of this essay is to reinforce and combat Jeffrey Lieber’s iteration of the inevitable coming media “reality,” to wit:
The Obama deficit.
The Obama recession.
Can I Get Me An Obama depression?
Obama deflation and stagflation and free-market implosion.
Obama poverty and unemployment and deflation and stock market crash and housing crisis.
The Barack Obama bank failures™. The Barack Obama layoffs©. The Barack Obama bankruptcies®.
One of the battles we will face in the coming days is beating back the media’s lazy and stupid and Right Wing driven reassignment of responsibility and blame for the sorry, sorry shape that the country and the world is in after George Bush and the Republicans were in charge of every aspect of our economy and foreign policy for the last eight years.
Let’s repeat that for emphasis….and keep repeating it. The mountain of problems we now face are a result of George Bush and the Republicans being in charge of every aspect of our economy and foreign policy for the last eight years.
What the heck, one more time…
The problems we face are a direct result of George Bush and the Republicans being in charge of every aspect of our economy and foreign policy for the last eight years.
Paying for George Bush’s War while giving George Bush’s tax cuts to the rich plunged us deep into debt, and George Bush’s ownership society created the housing bubble that is the most blatant face of the current economic apocalypse.
George Bush and the Republican Majority in Congress created the current economic crisis….while spending trillions of dollars and directly killing well over four thousand American soldiers and (literally) the uncounted deaths of a staggering number of Iraqi human beings. Period.
Wash, rinse, repeat.
No shifting of blame is possible, nor can it be tolerated. We simply cannot afford, for the sake of the future and in the interest of (finally) learning from history, George Bush and the Republican Party to be “rehabilitated.”
Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid et al made a conscious political decision to not take the ‘political risk’ of ending the Iraq War or opposing Bush’s policies vigorously. Their strategy was to make Bush ‘own it.’ It is now their responsibility to do everything in their power to make that stick.
Or else the thousands of American and Iraqi lives that have perished since 2006 are even more (if possible) wasted and there loss in vain.
Narrative is all, and we cannot afford to “lose” this battle of narratives. Both to avoid dishonoring the dead, and to prevent such amazing incompetence and irresponsibility by the Republican Party and their next and future George Bush, whoever that may be. The Republicans did this. We can never let that be forgotten, not even in the interest of ‘moving forward,’ or ‘bi-partisanship.’ Whenever a shift of blame is attempted, and especially whenever The Republicans attempt to ‘have their way’ on any important issue, we MUST ‘play the blame game’ and point a very large finger and yell loudly…
The problems we face are a direct result of George Bush and the Republicans being in charge of every aspect of our economy and foreign policy for the last eight years.
So why in the name of all that is just and holy should we listen to you incompetent idiots now?

What should happen every time a Republican opens his mouth….
< scratch’s head >
I think it’s probably all the fault of George Bush and the Republicans.
Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid were just accessories. They just drove the getaway car.
At the end of Spring, early Summer 2009 the right wing noise machine will be blaming the Democratic majority for everything including the smell of their own shit.
I can’t yell very loud in the blogosphere, but if I could, would the MSM hear my tree falling in the forest?
The single largest sum of money EVER ANYWHERE on this planet was just handed over, from we the people to them the rich fucks that mismanaged their JOBS so badly they endangered the global stabilization of the world market.
The sons of bitches that hoarded the profits from selling Hummers and Escalades and Excursions and Hemi’s now fly to D.C. in their corporate jets with a handful of want and mouth full of “gimme”.
I’m seriously considering a life of crime. No taxes, just profit. What will it be like if “Joe Average Taxpayer” considered this alternative along with me?
We are so screwed by the Republican corporate masters running the ministry of propaganda. As long as Republicans control the media, Democrats will suffer from blame game.
and say Obama should own it. He should say I am in charge (when he actually is, not before) and I will fix this. He should take bold action when necessary and go after the fraudsters who perpetrated these derivative schemes (which are causing all of this) on the American people. Let them say in court it’s all his fault.
The people who are stupid enough to listen to Rush are going to believe what he says anyway. I’m not wasting any time on them.
for Obama to announce we’re leaving Iraq on Jan 21st because we CAN’T AFFORD to stay one day longer. We need every dime of that Iraq money right here, right now!
My patootie!
The last eight years have just been the final accomplishment of what Reagan put into place 28 years ago and was continued by Bush 41 and Clinton. After those 20 years of putting all the pieces into place, culminating with Glass-Steagall, it was easy for Bush to commit the final coup de muerte!
I agree, however, that we must not be silent as the right wingers and their media collaborators try to MIS-place the blame on OBwannoblama!
Far above governments,plural.
Bill Clinton’s NAFTA and business de-regulation
John McCain and his stance and alliance with Ted Kennedy on immigration, totally contrary to republican base belief systems.
The “left” completely ignoring things like the North American Union meetings routinely held all during the Bush administration. America first? WTF?
Then yes there is Pelosi, non-impeach Pelosi. Plus other far reaching psychopaths like Joe Lieberman.
