Is it really over?

As I watched the election results roll in, as I watched as the mega-states went to Obama until you knew it was unevitable, I sat smiling; not that merely Obama won, but, that two little girls would walk into the White House in sheer wonder.

Well, the honeymoon ends quickly in politics.

One of the things we heard out of Obama’s camp was that they didn’t want any retreads in their administration.

That was then, this is now.

First, we hear that Rahm Emmanual is to be the Chief of Staff.  Wasn’t Rahm part of the Clinton White House?  So much for no retreads.  That is history.

Next we hear that Max Cleland may get Army Secretary or lead the Veterans Affairs division.  This would be great, but, he was part of President Carter’s administration.  So much for no retreads.

And Larry (or Lawrence) Summers name is being bandied about?  The pro-deregulation Democrat?  WTF!  Have we not seen what deregulation means?

Obama wanted fresh faces, new ideas, no retreads, yet, that is all he is going for now.  Retreads.  Old ideas.

If this is change we can believe in, I will never vote again.

Obama promised us change.  His picks so far, or at least the names being put forth, are all retreads.  All of them; Washington insiders.  We voted for Obama over Hillary why if his picks include Clinton retreads?

I will still love to see two little girls walk into the White House, their eyes wide in wonder.  It’s a heartwarming moment.

We voted for change.  We voted for new ideas, new faces.  We are getting more of the same.

No, the whole cabinet hasn’t been picked, but, if these picks are a clue, we get more of the same… nothing more.

Yes, it’s better than McCain and Palin, but, it is still a slap in the face to those of us who took Obama at his word.

The Republicans want the 50s back and apparently Obama’s got a thing for the 90s.  The only solace in an Obama presidency is likely to be that at least it isn’t more Bush.  His tinker toy reforms will put the Republicans back in contention in 2012, 2014 the latest.  With bold reforms, he could bury them till 2035 easy.   There is no freaking Democratic wing of the Democratic party.

a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach.  I hope it’s not as you characterize it, just more of the same, but it could be and I dread arriving at that judgment.  I’m willing to give him more time for now.  Let’s hope he gets smart and does something bold.
