My Hero.

(9:30PM EST – promoted by Nightprowlkitty)

John McCain’s hero and role model in the closing days of the election is “Joe The Plumber”.

Not some soldier in Iraq or a pull-yourself-up-by-your bootstraps small businessperson, but a guy whose singular distinction is being too stupid to comprehend the ramifications of the bottom line of his tax forms.

But fine, Joe the Plumber is McCain’s guy… his personal closing argument.

MY guy in these last few days, is someone I’ve never ever met… whose name I don’t even know… but who I will keep in mind for every second of these last seventy-two hours…

…he is the 57 year old brother of a fellow blogger.

He is disabled, born with Spina Bifida.

He has never voted in his life.

Until, 2006… he’d never even registered.

He’s not a partisan like us… not a dyed-in-the-wool anything… not a guy who has been crossing off the days on the calendar, like the rest of us.

In fact his passion was confined to… “IF I vote, I’ll vote for Obama.”

He is, dare I say, just… an American.

So, when it came time for him to cast a ballot in this election, which requires so much more work than 95% of will ever face… the wheelchair… the driving… the getting to the poll, and there was a LINE that he had to wait in, his DKOS sister was terrified that he’d turn around and go home.

It was agony for two hours while I waited for him to call and tell me how it went.

When he did, the first thing he said was “You didn’t tell me I might have to wait.”

I held my breath… “You waited, didn’t you?  You DID vote, didn’t you?”

He waited and he voted and he voted WITH GREAT JUDGMENT AND ELOQUENCE because…

“Because he heard that McCain wants to tax his insurance benefits.  And frankly, I think that’s a very good reason.  Can you imagine how difficult it would be for him to get affordable health insurance on the ‘free market’?”

THIS is a guy who is worth being a hero and a role model.

Someone to whom politics and politicians have, understandably, seemed so irrelevant to the daily toil for five plus decades, but whom THIS TIME is an example to any of us who might be tempted not to STFIL.

He STFIHC (Stayed The Fuck In His Car) until volunteers from the Obama campaign could bring him out a ballot and let him vote right there at the curb.

Hope 2

He is an electoral virgin no longer.

Oh, and did I mention… he’s in Virginia?

(Though WHICH Virginia I do not know.)

Kudos to him.

Kudos to the Obama volunteers.

Kudos to his blogger sister.

So John McCain can have Joe The Now Has A Publicist So That He Can Maybe Be A Country Star.

I’ll take Steve The Gutted It Up To Vote For Obama From His Car ANY DAY OF THE WEEK.

  1. I’ll leave it at that.

  2. from the Greeks to now western civilization deems those who commit the gory deeds hero’s. Sorry I just can’t see it. McCain to my rabid mind is no hero but a war criminal. Someone who dropped bombs on the Vietnamese’s already tortured heads and called it holy and American. Your hero has his head screwed on right. It says a lot that he is voting it says a lot that we all are voting. It’s making heroes of us all.

who stands up for values greater then himself, someone you wish you could be…..

McCain’s real hero is Charles Keating. Not the phony Joe the Plumber.

Heroes die for their beliefs, like Gandhi, Jan Hus, and Giordano Bruno  and so many others. Heroes live exemplary lives like Jane Addams and Mother Theresa. Heroes save their nation like William Tell, Dwight Eisenhower and Winston Churchill….there are so many heroes available to choose from and loser John McCain chooses Joe the Plumber?????

Even when I taught school, kids would choose Michael Jordan or Mother Theresa, or their parents…..What is with this guy? Is he intellectually, educationally and emotionally handicapped?

He is a sad statement on today’s GOP.
