Sunday Morning Over Easy

This song has been on my mind a lot this week. The first is the video version, and the images are powerful, but the second is live and has so much more feeling evident.

The layers in this song are untold.

Random thoughts about why I think so below. This song reflects this whole weeks’ writing for me.

Read the lyrics.

Is it getting better?

Or do you feel the same?

Will it make it easier on you now?

You got someone to blame

You say

One love

One life

When it’s one need

In the night

One love

We get to share it

Leaves you baby if you

Don’t care for it

Did I disappoint you?

Or leave a bad taste in your mouth?

You act like you never had love

And you want me to go without

Well it’s

Too late

Tonight

To drag the past out into the light

We’re one, but we’re not the same

We get to

Carry each other

Carry each other

One

Have you come here for forgiveness?

Have you come to raise the dead?

Have you come here to play Jesus?

To the lepers in your head

Did I ask too much?

More than a lot.

You gave me nothing,

Now it’s all I got

We’re one

But we’re not the same

Well we

Hurt each other

Then we do it again

You say

Love is a temple

Love a higher law

Love is a temple

Love the higher law

You ask me to enter

But then you make me crawl

And I can’t be holding on

To what you got

When all you got is hurt

One love

One blood

One life

You got to do what you should

One life

With each other

Sisters

Brothers

One life

But we’re not the same

We get to

Carry each other

Carry each other

One

One

Think about Prop 8 passing, think about how society judges a love that is not the same, but is the same One Love. The first video really is to make this point.

Think about War, and how we think we are playing Jesus, to imaginary lepers of our exceptionalism when really all we are doing is destroying the One Love.

Think about how divided we are on this planet, not carrying each other, when we are all being made to crawl. When we are really One. Love.

Can we drag our recent political past out into the light? Or is to too late? Are we holding onto hurt that will stop the One Love?

Or think about all the disappointments you may carry or have carried, from people who chose to give nothing, and chose giving pain. We are not the same, so did we ask too much expecting the Love of us as part of the One?

Truth be told, it was probably written as a heartbroken break-up song of a failed intimate relationship.

Instead of making me feel sympathy or melancholy for his grief, it instead fills me with Hope.

Because Love is a temple, Love a higher law and the answer is to carry each other.

Brothers, Sisters.

One.
