Dick and George…Torture Victims

Compassion is a bitch!

But first, a personal note, as this is, as they would say at dkos, not a diary, just from the amount of commas alone, let alone the fact that it is just a series of thought as I am currently…..

….of the last month or so of back pain and disorientation (no, I did not have my epicanthic folds removed as, comma, I do not have any) resulting from it.

So yeah, though I would probably blast someone else for saying it, lol, Dick and George’s decision to torture makes them victims. Victims of a mindset. Victims of a paradigm. Victims of a form of madness that mankind is allegedly attempting to rise above.

Victims of fear. Now don’t get me wrong, I am certainly not saying that their being victims of the paranoid, perhaps justifiably to some extent, what with all those missiles and the very real threat of planetary destruction, that was the reality of the Cold War mindset of their culture and generation excuses them! Not to mention good old Machismo. But it is essential in a larger sense of trying to understand and by understanding prevent, why mankind tortures and kills each other. And we must understand it before we can…..stop it. Someday.

But first! A commercial! And a duh!You might have heard (haha) that we are involved in a little thing called The Citizens Petition: Special Prosecutor for Bush War Crimes now at 8441 signers…Have YOU signed it???

Onto the duh. Duh, we have not done anything re the petition at Change.gov! I, personally am nearly completely ignorant as to the site. Does anyone here know there way around the site, or how we can best utilize it?

More rambling below the fold, if I can keep it between the lines!

So yeah, in the sense outlined above, we are all victims. But George and Dick, being at the center of a crisis even more so, and of course their victimhood made victims out of millions, if not all seven billion, of us other folk.

They were presented with a crisis in which they had to act. And the first act in every crisis is ‘deciding’ whether you will react …or respond. (h/t to NPK for the important semantic distinction.) They reacted rather than responded. They reacted by retreating into instinct, and their instinct was born of the paranoia that republicans are so annoyingly gifted with. Out of their fear and paranoia and feelings of Protestant persecution (yes, even Dick and George feel persecuted, and have Angry White Male syndrome, it all goes back to those damn Puritans…and even farther) they did what their instincts wrongly told them to do….they lashed out and hurt as many people as deeply as they could. And WAY overestimated the actual threat to their egos…I mean the country.

Oops time to publish! Hopefully we can develop this a bit more in the comments. Since hopefully I have pissed someone of enough to yell at me, lol!

In closing I have one more item, before climbing back into a cocoon of (hopefully) healing.

I wish to heap praise on and give thanks to whoever came up with the idea of the marijuana plant! Damn that stuff is good! I haven’t had any for quite some time, and now I do….and jeez Loueeze does it make a difference. So a salute to its creator and a shout out to all those who have worked so hard to Legalize It for medical use. After all, it is that same fear and paranoia that drove Dick and George to torture that led to the outlawing of one of the creators best creations!

Bong hits for Jesus indeed! And Lord I pray….bong hits for Congress as well!

Have a nice relaxing Saturday everyone and…

  1. …is the almost complete absence of impression management as a motivation :))

In some cosmic sense, sure, they’re victims of the patriarchy.  In terms of every breath since Bush tortured frogs as a child, I think there were ample opprotunities to make different choices.

not victims, okay, george maybe, he’s a walking poster child for manipulated village idiot, but cheney, no.  Darth was born Darthlike and i firmly believe chose to whittle away to become the evil he’s become.  george just wanted to be head cheerlearder and wear a bomber jacket.

  2. I got sidetracked by Dave Edmunds. Will have to go back and read this essay now.

  3. Is that what you’re referring to?

You mean Cheney didn’t set it up? And if he didn’t, you mean they tried to deal with the situation as best they could, rather than figure out how they could benefit from it?

I don’t see them as victims at all. They’re defective. Doesn’t make them victims, just makes them defective.

  4. We need to feed Dick a whole bunch of ganja-chocolate truffles to soften him up. Bush has PTSD, he is a walking cripple. I have compassion for these guys, but keep them the fuck away from anything resembling power over other sentient beings.

Oh yea, where was I? Back to Peter Tosh…

…we like to blame the victim anyway, so it’s all good.
