Debbie and I took a field trip on Thursday to the New York Botanical Garden to see the Holiday Train Show. Photos of that show will come later.
Our first order of business after arrival at the Haupt Conservatory which housed the show was to locate the restroom. While ding so we had the opportunity to tour several of the other exhibits. In today’s edition are photos from the desert plants exhibit, with a few from the tropical rain forest and aquatic plants exhibits.
Most of the photos are thumbnails. Clicking on them will reveal larger versions.
Above is the model of the building we were in which appears in the train show.
We were required to circumnavigate the conservatory clockwise through the back hallway to find the restrooms, which were to the right, but at the other end of the train exhibit. We first encountered the Fountain shown on the left, standing in a rectangular pool containing aquatic plants, visible through the Arch on the right, which is shown from a different angle. Shown below are close-ups of four of the orchids which hung down from the arch.
Out the door at the other end of this room we entered the desert room.

At the other end of the desert room was a rock which had a petroglyph of a turtle on it. Try as I might, I could not manage a viewable picture of it. And as these things happen, the only two images I found online are in Flash at Lehman College and in a Google Books article.
The other rooms were very steamy, being tropical and aquatic and all. So I took not so many photos and some of the photos I did take didn’t come out every well. But I rescued a couple. On the right is the display of carnivorous plants, which were enclosed in glass.
Below is my favorite, which I think contrasts well with the Death Plants. And with it comes the end of this part of the field trip and my first outing with my new camera.

We returned to the line and viewed the train show, which will probably take two or three photo diaries at least. Afterwards we went over to the Mertz Library to see the Chrysanthemums in Japanese Art show (I love the Edo period). Though no photos were allowed of those pieces, I did take some photos of the statues outside.
Coming soon to a Café near you.
I just donated my Nikon D40 to the niece and placed an order with Costco for a Nikon D90. That was why I worked all that overtime and then realized I signed up for another OT day this week.
Looking forward to the train show pictures….
My great ambition is to save for a trip to NYC this year specifically to take pictures well and do the whole yokel from out of town tourist thing but I don’t know anybody who lives there and accommodations are pricey. Which of course means more overtime.
and now it is time to wander over to the latest WeaveMothers…. 😉
