Did we misplace reality?

We must have, because there’s no other way to explain shit like this.

I think my personal favorite quote that explains the mentality (and I use that word in the loosest and most generous sense possible) of these idiots is this:

They’re the same people who believed that Bill Clinton’s use of the FISA court to obtain warrants to eavesdrop on Americans was a grave threat to liberty, but believed that George Bush’s warrantless eavesdropping on Americans in violation of the law was a profound defense of freedom.

Get that? Read it once again, please.

One more time. It’s ok to skim it now.

Using a court system to obtain legal warrants to eavesdrop: grave threat to civil liberties and grounds for verbal proclamations of pretend insurrections against our evil government.

Warrantless spying on all Americans, violating federal law: a necessary and laudable defense of freedom.

I’m happy to discuss diverging viewpoints of what’s good and necessary for America, what is good politics and bad, what is laudable and what is crappy, but shit like this makes rational discussions impossible and a waste of time.

I’m often accused of hyper-partisanship (sometimes legitimately, sometimes not), but whatever partisan opinions I may share pale in comparison to this selective “patriotism” by almost exclusively middle-class white men.

For even more “what-the-fuckery,” I give you this.

The above video is about 8 minutes. For those not willing to stomach Beck for that long, here’s the synopsis:

Glenn Beck, TV pundit on Fox (of course), along with ex-military and CIA folks, are discussing the planning and enactment of “war games” in the event of a civil war breaking out over Obama’s presidency and his actions as president.

I’m not making that up.

Of course, this was all couched in the “we of course pray this won’t happen” nonsense that Malkin pulled when she put up the phone numbers of some of her detractors, who were then stalked, harrassed and hounded at their homes and jobs, but as long as they HOPE that it doesn’t happen, it’s ok to discuss in positive tones.

This is a pretty good summation of my views on this situation:

But I am amazed at the sheer cognitive dissonance involved in simultaneously believing that it’s treasonous to peacefully oppose an unjustified war but that it’s patriotic to lead an armed insurrection against the government because they want to pay you unemployment benefits.

And these asses had the balls to call liberals who questioned the war in Iraq “traitors” and accused them of treason.

Jesus, someone give these idiots a course in Basic Logic.

    Reality is broken.

  1. …is my main complaint about: “What has happened to homo?sapiens?.”

I don’t remember it being like this when I was younger.  Maybe it was just the mileau around me back then.  But then, I seem to think it has something to do with the fragmentation of cognition perpetrated by teevee.

  2. and the long term study of another’s is a good de-programming tool.  I still yack at both Glenn Beck and Keith Olberman just because they follow the approved lamestream talking point boundaries.

    Starter mainstream “alternate” news sites

    And

For a level of European politics which tends to be light years ahead of “our” post kindergarten political discourse.

  3. Beck is batshit crazy.  He’s advertising his next gloom & doom show, We Surround Them, on his site …  complete with countdown clock: 15 days 16 hours and 20 minutes from now, oh boy!  It is being organized with viewing parties and meetups.

There was a diary at DKos about this:

Do you qualify for Glen Beck’s Revolution?

If you agree with 7 of the 9 principles below you are IN!

    The Nine Principles

    1. America is good.

    2. I believe in God and He is the Center of my Life.

    3. I must always try to be a more honest person than I was yesterday.

    4. The family is sacred. My spouse and I are the ultimate authority, not the government.

    5. If you break the law you pay the penalty. Justice is blind and no one is above it.

    6. I have a right to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness, but there is no guarantee of equal results.

    7. I work hard for what I have and I will share it with who I want to. Government cannot force me to be charitable.

    8. It is not un-American for me to disagree with authority or to share my personal opinion.

    9. The government works for me. I do not answer to them, they answer to me.

    I loved the diarist’s responses to #6 & #8.

    6. I have a right to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness, but there is no guarantee of equal results.

Ah, what a clever way to deny food, housing, and health care to Americans who don’t “deserve” these benefits. How disingenuous of you, Mr. Beck.

    8. It is not un-American for me to disagree with authority or to share my personal opinion.

HAHAHAHA! I get it. It’s only unAmerican when Democrats disagree with the government. Now that Republicans are the minority, all the rules have changed, and true patriots are those who REVOLT.

  4. out of dumb fucks is in itself irrational. Beck is so stupid that if you look in his eyes it’s alarmingly blank. The whole country let pandering to the dumbest common denominator be the way to get power,or money or both. Turns out that it just turned us into Idiocracy for all. What do you expect when we elected a man who was sold and bought on the premise that you would want to have a beer with him. They made coalitions with the angry, the stupid, the greedy and the fanatical. There sales men varied the pitch from David Brooks to Rush, they pumped the culture war.

They defined the real America as a land of ignorance violence and greed. They used the same tricks all fascists use. Thing is they went to far got to greedy to sadistic to arrogant. People finally woke up  and looked at the nightmare they had voted in. Good luck trying to sell it again. the only ones left listening are the really ignorant who may be angry and white but are fast becoming irrelevant. Even large swaths of the Republicans are suddenly getting rational and objecting to the likes of Jindal and other obstructionist dumb fucks.

  5. by this acronym:

    IOKIYAR

Remember when the Republicans were falling all over themselves yelling that Clinton had no right to intervene in the Balkans? Remember when 2002-2003 rolled around and it was unpatriotic to question the president’s judgment in foreign affairs?

It’s simply a matter of double standards and that is indeed bullshit.
