Bush to Chirac on Iraq Invasion: “This confrontation is willed by God.”

( – promoted by buhdydharma )

It appears we had a f..king religious nut as President who lied to obtain support for the invasion of Iraq in order to bring the end times closer. Cheney and Rumsfeld manupulated the “boy king” by playing to his religious delusions.

Former President George Bush explained to then-President of France Jacques Chirac that that the Biblical creatures Gog and Magog were at work in the Mid-East and must be defeated.  It apears that Bush told Chirac that invasion of Iraq was willed by God in order to usher in the “end times.”

This confrontation is willed by God, who wants to use this conflict to erase his people’s enemies before a New Age begins“.

Counterpunch: Bush’s Shocking Biblical Prophecy Emerges: God Wants to “Erase” Mid-East Enemies “Before a New Age Begins”

More, after the fold.

The story of the conversation emerged only because the Elyse Palace, baffled by Bush’s words, sought advice from Thomas Romer, a professor of theology at the University of Lausanne. Four years later, Romer gave an account in the September 2007 issue of the university’s review, Allez savoir. The article apparently went unnoticed, although it was referred to in a French newspaper.

The story has now been confirmed by Chirac himself in a new book, published in France in March, by journalist Jean Claude Maurice.

Chirac is said to have been stupefied and disturbed by Bush’s invocation of Biblical prophesy to justify the war in Iraq and “wondered how someone could be so superficial and fanatical in their beliefs“.

The Neo-Cons had an easy time manipulating him.  His untreated alcoholism led him to religious intoxication, using the concept to God to replace his drug of choice.  How on earth did America elect this nut?  Oh yeah, the Supreme Court.

The ruling class of America is utterly bankrupt, as we can see by how they destroyed the economy and stuck us in a totally unecessary war of choice.

This also may answer something that always confused me: why British PM Tony Blair supported Bush on the invasion so much.  I have often wondered whether Blair realized how nuts Bush was, and sought to ally himself in order to have some influence.

If this report about Gog and Magog is true, Bush’s plans for the invasion of Iran and other places were to fulfill Biblical prophesy.

Strange stuff.

Update I: From marsanges in the comments [at Daily Kos], here is the Link to French article

More from marsanges in the comments:link to original source.

Unfortunately, it clearly shows that sentence in its drama as given in all english translations based on that link, derives from the professor, not from Bush.

Bush did not say …

“This confrontation is willed by God, who wants to use this conflict to erase his people’s enemies before a New Age begins”

The professor said it while explaining what Gog and Magog mean.

marsanges’ comment

I have 13 hours of French from college more than 20 years ago, but I’ll try to read it.  There are two sources in the original article on Counterpunch:  Allez savoir and  new book, published in France in March, by journalist Jean Claude Maurice.

Update II: From marsanges in the comments.

Some original statements from the article in Allez savoir:

“«J’ai encore appris durant ce coup de

fil que le président des Etats-Unis avait

évoqué Gog et Magog dans une conversation

avec Jacques Chirac. La discussion

portait sur l’actualité au Proche-

Orient. Après avoir expliqué qu’il voyait

Gog et Magog à l’oeuvre, George W.

Bush a ajouté que les prophéties bibliques

étaient en train de s’accomplir»,

poursuit Thomas Römer.

Cette conversation, qui porta encore

sur l’axe du mal, eut lieu au début 2003,

quelques semaines avant l’intervention

américaine en Irak.”

========

«Cette lecture américaine échappe

effectivement aux Européens, qui ont

perdu ce rapport aux textes bibliques,

poursuit le théologien de l’UNIL.

Ces réflexions politiciennes figuraient-

elles sur la page A4 que Thomas

Römer a transmise à l’Elysée, au début

2003? «Non.

conseillers.»

Even if it were not the “primary” motivation for his invasion, “Gog and Magog” don’t belong as any kind of motivation.

I dont speak french either.

Après avoir expliqué qu’il voyait

Gog et Magog à l’oeuvre, George W.

Bush a ajouté que les prophéties bibliques

étaient en train de s’accomplir»

roughly: “After having explained that he sees Gog and Magog at work, GWB did assert that the biblical prophecies are in process of being fulfilled (in the middle east).”

Last Part:

“Did you write any of your political considerations on the A4 page you returned to the Elysee? – No. I sent them a bibliographical explanation (of Gog and Magog). (and put it in context …) And then I have not heard anything further, either of Chriac, or of his advisers.”

The influence of the [executive] has increased, is increasing, and ought to be diminished.

Update IV:

Bentliberal has other examples.

Here’s part of his comment:

President Bush said to all of us: ‘I am driven with a mission from God’. God would tell me, ‘George go and fight these terrorists in Afghanistan’. And I did. And then God would tell me ‘George, go and end the tyranny in Iraq’. And I did.

–Nabil Shaath, Palestinian foreign minister, speaking of his meeting with Bush at a summit in 20003 after the Invasion of Iraq.”

I am so glad Bush is gone.

  1. is turning out to be true……even the wildest stuff that even WE couldn’t really fully believe.

That’s his cover story and he’s not changing it.

  2. Of COURSE George W. was out of his fucking gourd.

  3. Anyway, some Bush quotes along the same tack, from an old diary of mine:

    Bush vs. Bush (on God)

I often think the best way to neutralize the President is simply be to let him debate himself:

“I don’t bring God into my life to be a political person; I ask God for strength and guidance; I ask God to help me be a better decision. The decision about war and peace is a decision I made based upon what I thought were the best interests of the American people. I was able to step back from religion, because I have a job to do.”
