The Religious Right ‘Gets It’ Before ‘the Left’ Does

James freaking Dobson….fer gawds sake, understands the politics of the moment better than Congress!

   There is nothing you can do at this time about what is taking place because there is simply no limit to what the left can do at this time. Anything they want, they get and so we can’t stop them.

   We tried with [Health and Human Services Secretary] Kathleen Sebelius and sent thousands of phone calls and emails to the Senate and they didn’t pay any attention to it because they don’t have to. And so what you can do is pray, pray for this great nation… As I see it, there is no other answer. There’s no other answer, short term.

This IS exactly the situation: Anything they (we) want, they (we) get and so we can’t stop them. (us)

So what is stopping us? Why us of course! Inertia, lack of imagination and acumen and of course, as always as is inevitable with Harry Reid and Steny Hoyer (sorry Nance, lol) running Congress….fear.

Dobson knows we have won the culture war….and that we DO control Congress. The Republicans know it and have resorted to their Republiban Insurgent tactics, the polls know it….the only ones who don’t know it is the Democrats who are in control. Inertia.

Well and, of course, ahem, then there is the media, that will continue to portray the Repubs as relevant for as long as possible to keep their ratings up.

Which brings us to “we.”  

What follows is sort of a ramble on strategy.

“We” the Human Rights and Peace Activists, have only slightly more power than the Religious Right at the moment, until the inertia shifts to motion.

And we aren’t going to like the interim….at all. Because in the interim, Obama is maneuvering to take away the last bastion of the Bushco Era Repubs… National Security. He is going to be “Tough on Terror.”

He is gearing up to “win” AfPak, and he will have to be brutal to do it. A LOT of people…civilians…are going to die. And be captured and “detained.” That is, I think what is behind all the bad decisions he is making. It sucks. And there is nothing we can do about it. Just like Dobson. So at least the pendulum has swung back to Centrism, rather than Hard Rightism, I suppose we have to take comfort in that.

When that inertia shifts and the Democrats finally realize we have won, then the Far Left Human Rights and Peace Activists will have the power to influence policy, just as the Religious Wrong did. Until then we need to position ourselves to take advantage of that when the time comes. To do that we need to be “working” the media and Congress. On torture, where Dick and the Repubs attacking the Dems are moving us ever closer to a Truth Commission. And on doing serious oversight on what is about to start happening in AfPak.

I’m not quite sure how yet, lol, but this is, imo, where we are in the strategic Big Picture. Any progress we are going to make will be in pushing those two entities. We might get a few bones thrown to our agenda by Holder and the DOJ in there somewhere. More exposure of the corruption of the Bush years. But it will be slow.

The main thing will be wearing down the stone of inertia with a constant flow of water, the water being the pressure we can bring to bear to get things moving away from the Repub Paradigm and into the new Dem Paradigm.

Perhaps, maybe, possibly….if being a “War President” doesn’t change him too much, and IF he can “win.” Then we might see some good stuff out of Obama, some leadership from him in his new position of strength on National Defense re Human Rights and Peace. Until then, expect disappointment.
