Drug Addiction in Afghanistan
After 9/11 and the Talibans refusal to turn over the al Qaeda leaders and others we invaded Afghanistan ridding that country of their leadership and Supposedly to go after the guilty of that huge criminal terrorist act against our Nation and People, Then We pretty much Left, taking our military personal and promised rebuilding money with us. The War Drums beat instead for invasion of an innocent country and it’s people, Iraq, which became the overwhelming focus while smaller numbers of troops stayed in Afghanistan starting a long stagnated occupation.

President Obama’s compensation czar has been meeting for weeks with executives at some of the country’s largest and most troubled companies as they face a Thursday deadline to propose how much they will pay their top employees.Kenneth R. Feinberg has the unprecedented task of deciding executive compensation at seven companies that received large government bailouts. His meetings with American International Group, Citigroup, Bank of America, General Motors, Chrysler, Chrysler Financial and GMAC have been conducted in secret, with neither Feinberg nor the companies willing to say much in public.
But one window into this opaque process is an account provided by people familiar with his discussions with AIG, the crippled insurer that has received tens of billions of dollars in federal rescue money.

In a joint article for The Sunday Telegraph, the two Cabinet ministers hit back strongly at claims that the government is colluding in torture by insisting that everything possible is done to minimise the risk of mistreatment by foreign regimes.
However, the Foreign and Home Secretaries say Britain’s security and intelligence services (MI5 and MI6) face “hard choices” and the overriding aim is to “defend both our citizens’ rights and their security”.
The rare joint intervention by the pair, whose departments are responsible for MI5 and MI6, comes at the end of the week where ministers have faced detailed allegations of British complicity in torture – including providing questions for detainees to be asked under interrogation.

DISTRACTIONS
Late as usual.
This week, I`m presenting images from Lithuania.
They were taken by a friend of my client Villija, who just returned from there with her daughter Kendra.
All I know about this mount of crosses is that under Soviet rule, no displays of a religious nature were allowed.
If a cross was put up to commemorate the death of a loved one, the authorities smashed it down.
The Lithuanians then began to bring their crosses to this remote area, & a tradition began & more & more crosses were erected till this is what it is now.
Villija & Kendra were there to bring clothing & necessities to babies in an orphanage there that they collected through a network here in the US.

Uranium 235 / What God Said
I posted this diary a year ago, July 17, 2008 as part of the “Writing in the Raw” series. This is the most recent writing I have done on evolution. A few people here at DD have asked for more on Pierre Teilhard de Chardin and Evolution.
Since I seem to be an ever-procrastinating lazy critter and haven’t come up with anything new and haven’t posted anything this year on those seminal events in the formation of the Evolutionary Imperative, Hiroshima and Nagasaki, I repost the essay here with a few changes, mainly in format.
This is especially for Lady Lib. For any who are truly intersted in this subject, I recommend going to my original post The Evolutionary Imperative — Writing in the Raw and read the truly cogent comments to see how others here are thinking about evolution and our current conundrum. I begin with my poem:

A Way of Seeing (Weekend Anthropology)
I’ve thought for years, that Cultural Anthro needs to be a required course in the high school curriculum. Or at least included in a Rotation on Social/Cultural Issues of some sort.
It is the kind of Education we all really need more of. In some arena’s, “multicultural” stuff is “in”, it’s trendy, we see that with the Ethnicity Of The Month celebrations (which are pretty superficial). But something with a little more depth, a course plan that is well designed and well taught… well I can dream, can’t I? I think it would go a long way towards forwarding the R/Evolution we all feel is coming.
Ignorance is the enemy.
NOTE: No folktales tonight (as I’ve been doing in my previous essays, here’s the first one). I got tired of those … theye’re ALL about Greed! lol … I may return to them if/when I find any good ones or I get inspired.
