British trade unions to boycott Israeli goods

Nobody in this country is going to care, and I’m sure this will never see the light of day here, either, but I just have to applaud this:

British trade unions to boycott Israeli goods

Britain’s Trades Union Congress has approved a call for a targeted, consumer-led boycott and sanctions campaign against Israel and to work closely with a radical anti-Israel group.

The decision was announced on Thursday at the 6.5-million member labor federation’s annual conference in Liverpool.

The new policy calls on the British government to condemn the “Israeli military aggression and the continuing blockade of Gaza,” and to end arms sales to Israel, which it said totaled £18.8 million in 2008.

It also advocates a ban on import of goods originating in settlements and an end to the European Union’s preferential trading terms for Israel.

Yeah, right, a “radical anti-Israel group”.  If you’re most of the people in Israel, especially the ruling politicians and the media, anyone who objects to anything Israel does, no matter how heinous, is a “radical anti-Israeli”.

I wish this boycott would spread.   It already seems to be right down the old Memory Hole, the way the IDF committed atrocity after atrocity in Gaza, and continues to threaten World War Three with its belligerence against Iran.

Israel is probably the greatest threat to world peace, and it’s all because it has blind, unequivocal support from the United States.

In case you weren’t paying attention during the Gaza atrocity, here’s a little video to refresh your memory.

And just a couple of days ago, The UN finally accused Israel of committing war crimes in Gaza.

And hell, that was just for the use of white phosphorous.   It wasn’t even about things like this:

The soldiers’ testimonies include accounts of an unarmed old woman being shot at a distance of 100 yards, a woman and her two children being killed after Israeli soldiers ordered them from their house into the line of fire of a sniper and soldiers clearing houses by shooting anyone they encountered on sight.

“That’s the beauty of Gaza. You see a man walking, he doesn’t have to have a weapon, and you can shoot him,” one soldier told Danny Zamir, the head of the Rabin pre-military academy …

I know, I know, I’m such an Anti-Semite!   Just like those radical British trade unions!   They must be stopped!

“The TUC’s leaders should hang their heads in shame at this reckless call. They have betrayed their own constituency by allowing the TUC to be hijacked as a political tool for extremists. This one-sided approach subjects the State of Israel to a despicable double standard not experienced by any other nation, including dictatorships such as Libya, which recently celebrated the return of a convicted mass murderer,” he said.

Yeah right, you’re either with the war criminals, or you’re with the terrorists people who are victims of the war criminals!   Hmmmmm, that’s kind of a tough choice, actually …..

People who think that by boycotting a democratic country they will promote peace and reconciliation, are living in an upside down world,” Palmor said.

No, an upside-down world is one in which a tiny little warmongering and vicious racist country is unquestioningly supported by billions of dollars and state of the art weapons by a huge superpower, so that the tiny little warmongering and racist country can massacre its neighbors, destroy their towns and their homes, rip up their olive trees and their crops, and slaughter their children.   It’s like the American Indians vs. Lockheed Martin.   It’s a mismatch and it’s a crime.  THAT’S an upside down fucking world, you goddamn asshole.

I don’t like racists, I don’t like genocidal murderers, and I don’t like anyone who supports that bullshit.   Which means I’m not too fond of the United States, whose congress voted almost unanimously to support the slaughter in Gaza.

We are the bad guys.  I know it’s tough to face, but we are.

  1. Obama, but he has made a few small noises about Israel.   Very small noises.

boycotts are out of the question here. There’s a good deal solidarity against Israeli policies in Britain both in the working class and with leftist intellectuals–and has been for some time though 9/11 reduced it.
