Since we’re on a southern rock rage tonight I’ll throw this fairly obscure diddy out:
This is “Cheer” by Potliquor from the Levee Blues album. I’m from up around Chi-Town way and we shore do have us some blues up here! I lived down in Memphis in 1971 and 1972 and Potliquor was huge down there back then. When I moved back up north I brought this music with me and blew everybody away. I’m a pretty humble fellow and don’t like to pull my own chain, but I can blow a pretty mean blues harp and also play a little dobro. Sonny Boy Williamson (Rice Miller) is by far my favorite blues performer and Rob Ickes from the band Blue Highway is my favorite dobro player. I’m looking around right now for something by Eric Quincy Tate, a late 60’s-early 70’s southern rock blues band from Georgia, anyone ever hear of them. They were huge down south back then too but I can’t seem to find anything decent.
Muddy Waters and Sonny Boy Williamson II—Not the Sonny Boy I was talking about above, but ooooh Man…I saw Muddy live in Memphis in ’71 and at the Wooden Nickel in Chicago in’73
I had the great privilege a year or two ago of hearing Geoff Achison & the Souldiggers at a local bar, where the listening room seats maybe 50, 75 max.
I’d never heard of him before, so thought I’d stay for a couple of songs, then go elsewhere for the evening. Three hours later, I was still there and had a chance to chat with Geoff for a minute or two after his final set. Great guy!
At first, I couldn’t imagine the Allmann Brothers song “Whipping Post” lending itself to acoustic guitar, but Geoff does an amazing job!

I was born in Hawaii,
Here ya’ go Catfish…
sorry I missed it!
that has, despite a troubled history, go on to place four of its guitarists on the Rolling Stone list of the 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time?
The four:
#2 Duane Allman
#23 Warren Haynes
#58 Dickey Betts
#81 Derek Trucks
