Utopia 17: Whent the Red Wind Blows

“Now, I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds.”

J. Robert Oppenheimer quoting the Bhagavad Gita as he watched his creation, the first atomic bomb, successfully detonate.

Actual quote from the Bhagavad Gita:

sri-bhagavan uvaca:

kalo ‘smi loka-ksaya-krt pravrddho

lokan samahartum iha pravrttah /

rte ‘pi tvam na bhavisyanti sarve

ye ‘vasthitah pratyanikesu yodhah //

The Lord said: “Time  [death]  I am, the destroyer of the worlds, who has come to annihilate everyone.  Even without your taking part all those arrayed in the  [two] opposing ranks  will be slain!”

1 Bomb attack blamed in deadly Russia train disaster

by Kirill Kudryavtsev, AFP

UGLOVKA, Russia (AFP) – An elite passenger train carrying hundreds of people from Moscow to Saint Petersburg was derailed by a bomb attack that left dozens dead and nearly 100 injured, officials said Saturday.

The attack occurred late Friday about 400 kilometres (250 miles) northwest of Moscow in a forest where the same train, the Nevsky Express, popular with tourists and commuters, was hit by a similar bomb attack in August 2007.

“We are indeed talking about a terrorist attack,” Vladimir Markin, spokesman for the federal investigative committee, was quoted as saying by the Interfax news agency.

Nationwide protests this week against Afghanistan escalation (UPDATE)

It’s about time for a substantial anti-war movement to start in this country – and with Obama probably announcing an escalation of 34,000 troops to Afghanistan (in addition to the 20,000 he already sent), there is no better time than now.  A leading anti-war organization, World Can’t Wait, is holding protests around the nation.

Throughout next week, there will be protests in (this list will probably include more cities by the time the protests start – and you can always organize a protest yourself!):

What do you do when your mind just won’t concentrate enough to…..um….

What was I talking about?

Ever since I got over the flu I seem to be at a loss for anything I really want to …….er, where was I?

Nothing seems to be inspiring me or outraging me right now, even though there are a LOT of inspiring and outrageous things going on. I don’t feel creative enough to even write something clever, except perhaps something about how I can’t write anything write now, and who wants to read that, I mean….really.

I have pounded my head against various flat surfaces and that didn’t seem to help much. Nor did boxing my own ears…though maybe I did that wrong since I have no idea how to box ears. I tried kicking myself in the ass…..but that just made me fall down.

Oh well, it IS a Holiday weekend, and I have written something almost everyday for four years now, maybe a break is good. After all we are transitioning from one reality to another right now, and maybe my brain is just scouting ahead or something, because it sure ain’t doing much else. Or maybe it’s the tryptophan?

I just hope I don’t disappoint my fan.

Ok I have wasted enough of your time on this drivel, with me out of the game you guys need to be writing something to cover for me! Instead of listening to me whine…and dither!

And if anyone sees my brain, tell it to get its ass home!

Rosewood Reality

It really doesn’t take much to start a riot. The entire town of Rosewood was razed, burnt, its citizens tortured, hung and shot in cold blood over the obvious lie of a white woman with a white lover she was trying to hide from her husband.

It can take as little as police brutality raiding a bar, to set a city like Detroit afire.

Elect a Black Man? Burn a Black Church. Mosques and Synagogues bomb and torch each other so often, its not even necessary to create the links. Just google I/P.

Grow a Blogger (and a liberal)

I would like to ask you to consider doing me a favor.  My 15 y/o grandson has a blog.  It is his 11th grade English assignment.  He gets graded on his essays, multi-media content, and comments.  The classmates are suppose to interact with each other, but they don’t.    I post there as Miss Marple just so there is someone commenting there besides his teacher. (I made him promise that he would never let the teacher know Miss Marple is his grandmother.)  Anyway, we all know how much fun blogging can be and how disappointing it is when one’s hard work goes unnoticed.    So to help him discover the joy of blogging, I was wonderding if you would mind dropping by his blog from time to time to leave him a link or to exchange a thought.

Since it is a school project and I didn’t want to get him or the teacher in any hot water,  I originally emailed this request to some of you instead of posting a diary with a link.   Well anyway, I just got a phone call from a very excited young man who was delighted that Edger and Cassiodorus dropped by.    He encouraged me to post a diary and to invite you all by.

Note to Grandson:  Jack’s Smirking Revenge left you this.

Note to Me:  I can’t believe I’m outing myself to my grandson.  There ain’t no mountain high enough when you’re a grandmom.

So when and if you have the time or the inclination, the link is here.    If not, it will be perfectly fine and not hurt my feelings at all.  Honest.
