Empire in the Post Cold War Nuclear Age

Barack Obama was in large part awarded the Nobel Prize for his stated determination to clean up yet another mess that he chose to be handed. The mess of thousands of nuclear weapons floating around after the Clod War.

Apparently the price of doing that right now is continuing the American Empire and continuing killing people who have never done anything to us and never will or would.

Afghanistan is after all, at this point, just a huge, costly and deadly cover story for the CIA to try to “secure” Pakistan’s nuclear arsenal. Nothing more, nothing less. We certainly don’t care about the Afghan people, since we have been killing them and locking them in Bagram for eight years.

Which brings us to perhaps THE worst legacy of George and Dick’s Bogus Journey into Empire. After all the torture, all the completely innocent dead in two countries, all the children and future children deformed by the depleted uranium we spread around so casually, it may seem tough to settle on that title of ‘worst.’

Until you consider what has been created in the name of the American Empire, given the absolutely terrifying history of the CIA. Because we no longer have four branches of the American military, we now have five.

The CIA is no longer a spy agency, it is now a covert army, encapsulating a covert navy, a covert air force, covert combat units…and of course, drones that can kill anyone, anywhere in the world, without them knowing it is coming until they are already dead.

This is the same CIA that constantly lies to Congress. This is the same CIA that has gone rogue so many times it makes Palin look like the poseur she is. This is the same CIA that indirectly created the regime in Iran that we are now fighting and directly helped to create the Taliban and Al Qauida, the same CIA that smuggled cocaine into the United States to pay for the weapons we shipped to Iran in exchange for hostages, the same CIA that now has some measure of control over the worlds largets opium crop.

Due to its mobility, lack of accountability, penchant for complete and lethal idiocy and getting little stuff like whether countries have massive amounts of WMD or not absolutely WRONG, there is only one thing nearly as scary as the thousands of loose nukes in this world…and that is the agency that is now tasked with the covert invasion of Pakistan to secure them.

The American Empire can now project a nearly invisible army to do its bidding anywhere in the world, and the only evidence it leaves behind is a trail of dead wedding parties.

The American Empire was bad enough when we could see the destruction it semi-indiscriminately spread around the world, but now not even Congress gets to know what the American Empire is doing….if the CIA doesn’t want it to.

Welcome to the new world of covert Empire. And just imagine the possibilities.
