rotating blog memes

wow! just think about it!

Yeah, this isn’t an essay…I know.

I just want everybody to think about rotating blog memes.

I see it all the time.

Orbiting blog memes, maybe.

If so, they’ll come in, sooner or later.

For the several ish time, thanks for not banning me.

Turing test. I erred. You pass. Miep.

Open Thread, with Pooties

Hai!  I need to ask some stupid questions — well, not stupid to me, because I don’t know the answers, but they will probably sound stupid to those of you who are more tech-savvy than I am: which is just about everyone here.

But first, some pooties:

New Years Resolve, Binge or Be

FdBrn

copyright © 2010 Betsy L. Angert.  BeThink.org

Another year has come and gone.  Everywhere she goes she hears people speak of New Years resolutions.  They all say this time will be different.  I will decide to do as I had not done previously or at least had not done well.  Countless commit to a life of calorie counting.  Others merely muse that they will exercise more.  Drugs, drinking, there are also discussions of these concerns.  People are confident.  This year I will deliver myself from what I think evil.  A few philosophize as to their personal career path.  Change is the objective.  A greater goal is thought to be golden.  As Author Mary Anne Radmacher reflected and now millions whisper as their mantra, “Live with intention . . .  Choose with no regret. . . . Do what you love. Live as if this is all there is.”  Therein lies the problem.

since you haven’t banned me

I’ll only say thank you, for that.

Because I think it is really cool that a leftist blog gets it through their collective heads that banning is wrong. I hope my efforts have gotten this across.

Meanwhile, I have been typing and typing and typing.

I tend to rewrite the same stuff over and over again, except I hope I get it better each time.

It’s like water rushing over the rocks. It becomes more clear.

I am still here, you didn’t throw me away.

Okay.

But I still think you stuck it to Jay. Jay is my friend, from long back.

I’m not going to go away from that.

Jay is a good blogger! he’s nice and understanding.

He’s smart. He’s a liberal. I’ve known him for a long time.

Yeah, he has a degree from a law school. UCLA, actually.

He’s a dear person. And like Allison pointed out; yeah, lawyers kind of get trained to talk like that, kinda confrontational.

Thank you for not banning me. And ek hornbeck and Inky99 and MomCat, I’m always interested in what you have to offer.

But I cannot keep blogging here if any of my long-time friends are cut out at will.

Jesus, ek. Deal with it!!!!

I WANT you to feel secure on this blog. You deserve it.

I don’t want to kick you off or take over this blog, though I might start my own.

And if/when I do, I would want you to come in and chip in, too.

How hard is it to get this across, ek?

Miep

Its time you discontinue with this particular tangent and find another topic to write about. Or, are you just trying to further inflame the situation?

Hero

And they say that a hero could save us.

I’m not gonna stand here and wait.

I’ll hold on to the wings of the eagles.

Watch as we all fly away.

Someone told me change would all save us

But how can that be, look at what change gave us?

A world full of killing and blood spilling

A world that never came

Why I’m done fighting

Ministry of Truth has a great essay on why he fights.

They are all very good points.  I guess I am just too jaded, because I DO have a rebuttal to those points.

Here is why I am done fighting…

There They Went Again & Again & Again…

In another arrogant collusion to once again deny us any possibility of what we want — real health care reform, single payer, public option — those who do what they want, but not what we want, have decided to scrap the conference committee to reconcile the Senate and House versions.  Instead, they have decided to have a secret meeting of the 3 major players, Pelosi, Reid, Obama, behind closed doors without reporters or C-Span.

This is a call to action.  We need to call congress and tell them we are furious.  Like modern day Paul Reveres, we need to ride through the countryside on our internet horses and yell from the rooftops, “The fascists are coming.  The fascists are coming.”   And we aren’t gonna take it any more.  No we aren’t.

It’s time for the Second American Revolution.  We need to let Congress know we aren’t going to take this any more.  No taxation without representation.  No mandates to force us to buy junk health insurance when we don’t have a democratic say in what is being put into law.

To the rooftops, to the tubes, to Congress, say NO!  We won’t take it any more.  The Second American Revolution is coming.  The Second American Revolution is Coming.

Some good ways to start ‘The Year of Resistance’

I have recently been calling for a large social movement (or, more realistically, an expansion of the social movements for justice already in existence) and here are a few ways we can all get started on being part of this movement.

1 CIA Afghan base bomber was Qaeda triple agent: militants

by Randa Habib, AFP

Tue Jan 5, 9:26 am ET

AMMAN (AFP) – A suicide bomber who killed eight people at a CIA base in Afghanistan was an Al-Qaeda triple agent who duped Western intelligence services for months before turning on his handlers, jihadist websites boasted on Tuesday.

The Jordanian intelligence services, believing the bomber to be their double agent, brought him to eastern Afghanistan with the mission of finding Al-Qaeda number two, Ayman al-Zawahiri, the websites and Western intelligence agents cited by US media said.

But instead he blew himself up at Forward Operating Base Chapman in Khost province near the Pakistani border, killing seven CIA agents and his Jordanian handler, a top intelligence officer and member of the royal family.

What needs to be done in 2010? What can the left do in 2010 to ensure a better, stronger America for ALL Americans?

Before deciding what needs to be done, first we must remember what we are fighting for.

The people of this country, not special interest big money, should be the source of all political power. Government must remain the domain of the general citizenry, not a narrow elite.

                  ~ Senator Paul Wellstone

“I think this is really a good example of the commercial calculus and ties taking precedence over everything else. It’s sort of like the almighty dollar is triumphing over a lot of other values that we have as a nation.”

Housing Animal Spirits to Be Banished by Prime Foreclosures

Jan. 4 (Bloomberg) — Homeowners with the best credit are the next big risk for the U.S. housing market.

An increase in mortgage defaults among prime borrowers in 2009 is likely to accelerate this year, slowing the real estate recovery even as Americans become more optimistic about the economy, said Robert Shiller and Karl Case, the economists who created the S&P/Case-Shiller Home Price Index.

“There will be continuing foreclosures, and not just subprime, it will be prime mortgages,” Shiller, a professor at Yale University, said in an interview. “This is creating a huge shadow inventory of homes that are still owned, but they’re going to be on the market in the next year or so.”

The number of prime mortgages overdue by at least 60 days more than doubled in the third quarter from a year earlier to 838,000, according to a Dec. 21 report from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency and the Office of Thrift Supervision. Unemployed homeowners struggling to pay their bills will default on their home loans and increase foreclosures, Shiller and Wellesley College’s Case said.

Employers have cut more than 7.2 million jobs in the last two years, the biggest employment loss since the Great Depression. Measured annually, the U.S. jobless rate probably will average 10 percent in 2010, according to the median estimates of economists surveyed by Bloomberg. That would be the highest rate in government records dating to 1948, after rising to a 26-year high of 9.3 percent last year.
