Paging Dr. Moreau (updated)

(10 PM – promoted by TheMomCat)

Gee, nothing could ever possibly go wrong with this:

The Pentagon’s mad science arm may have come up with its most radical project yet. Darpa is looking to re-write the laws of evolution to the military’s advantage, creating “synthetic organisms” that can live forever – or can be killed with the flick of a molecular switch.

As part of its budget for the next year (PDF), Darpa is investing $6 million into a project called BioDesign, with the goal of eliminating “the randomness of natural evolutionary advancement.” The plan would assemble the latest bio-tech knowledge to come up with living, breathing creatures that are genetically engineered to “produce the intended biological effect.” Darpa wants the organisms to be fortified with molecules that bolster cell resistance to death, so that the lab-monsters can “ultimately be programmed to live indefinitely.”

Of course, Darpa’s got to prevent the super-species from being swayed to do enemy work – so they’ll encode loyalty right into DNA, by developing genetically programmed locks to create “tamper proof” cells. Plus, the synthetic organism will be traceable, using some kind of DNA manipulation, “similar to a serial number on a handgun.” And if that doesn’t work, don’t worry. In case Darpa’s plan somehow goes horribly awry, they’re also tossing in a last-resort, genetically-coded kill switch.

Sounds like the procurement guys at DARPA have watched too many sci fi movies. Or too few.

BioDesign.

Why don’t they just call it the Genesis project and be done with it?  At least that might get the teabaggers interested.

(tip: sound ON for maximum effect.)

Or maybe The Terminator would be more appropriate?

Frankenstein?

Boys from Brazil?

Jurassic Park?

Bladerunner?

Take your pick.

Earth to DARPA: when it comes to genetic weaponry, happy endings only ever happen in the movies.

Update:

And speaking of genetically engineered killing machines, we certainly can’t forget these guys:

The Dalek Project fits quite nicely, I think.

  1. a few hundred terrorists are still playing caveman in the Hindu Kush.

  2. DNA –> RNA –> protein.

What else do you need to know?

I’m delighted by the keen foresight of our overlords.  Always have been.  Wheeeee!

    “Judgement Day.” (Terminator fans here)

    shaking head…

  4. Oh Noes!!

  5. …From Robot soldiers to “synthetic organisms” that can’t die…

Unbelievable that the people who can’t even come up with winnable missions or exit plans for their wars are given the funding and authority to work on creating artificial life forms programmed to… to… well, you’ve seen those sci-fi movies, even if the fools who are allowing them to do this haven’t.

More like “paging Dr. Strangelove.” This sounds like it could have been lifted from the write-up for a sci-fi movie or something.

  6. Can’t quite remember where!  But it just blew me away — “evil” begets “evil” and it seems there is no end!

Thanks for bringing this to our attention — I’m starting to wonder if the U.S. is not even sicker than the Third Reich!

Here’s another item that, personally, I’m not at all sure has not ALREADY been attempted and carried out:

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) – The military is getting ready to simulate how it would respond to a big earthquake in Alaska.

So, here it is, as compiled by one Ted Land:

Military plans to simulate response to catastrophic earthquake

Lt. Gen. Dana Atkins is the commander of Alaska troops.

JUNEAU, Alaska — The military is getting ready to simulate how it would respond to a catastrophic earthquake in Alaska.

Lt. Gen. Dana Atkins is the commander of Alaska’s forces.

Atkins spent the day in the state capital briefing lawmakers and the governor on the military’s presence here.

He says this is the first time the Arctic Edge training exercise will bring together several state, local and federal agencies to simulate such a natural disaster.

He also briefed the Joint Armed Services Committee on the Joint Base Elmendorf Richardson project, which he says should be fully operational in October.

“What does that mean? Well hopefully it means nothing. It should be transparent to the people who come on the installation, to the work forces on the installation and certainly the soldiers and airmen and their families,” Atkins said.

The Arctic Edge exercise starts at the end of April and runs through the first week of May.

Do you ask yourself (as I do) what is the point of all this?  If not utter destruction to our environment, our lives, livelihood, whatever you can think of — destruction!!!!!

  7. I was servicing my home chemtrail pollutant removal system after doing my usual electronically enhanced mainstream media deprogramming meditation.  Anyway the real effort here is to get rid of the exceptional Indigo children, you know those Einstein like prodigies who might grow up to develop X-men like powers and Lord knows you just can’t have non-Illuminati people with potential like that.

But hey, let’s face it they fucked up a perfectly good world depopulation effort with this swine flu fiasco.  You also can’t encode loyalty to an organization which can’t make it’s mind up in the first place.

Is to destroy our emotional and spiritual nature and nothing less. Emotions, feelings, compassion are, to them, something repugnant. The military mind, in all its robotic glory, is bent on destruction for its own sake as it has been removed from direct connection to the populace and is now a kind of guild that lives for its own reasons not ours. Our military has no interest at all in protecting us — rather it pursues its hatred of the soul into dark corridors that have no end.
