If it was in the way of tourists.

Lots of promises about safer, cleaner housing made… then broken.

It’s the same trail the Olympics leave wherever they go.

has been talking for months about the homeless relocations.

She sent cute little red mittens to the kids…

  1. during the weekend the IOC 2010 decision came out.

The day before the vote just happened to also be Canada Day, and I was really looking forward to the fireworks.

    I was sorely disappointed.

Turned out the city elders were so worried that about any public incident might mar their Olympic bid that they actually canceled all the planned Canada Day festivities for that year.

    Oh, Canada….

  2. …I’m guilty.  I’m about to watch the Opening Ceremonies.  I was heavily into Alpine skiing in younger days.  And I love seeing bodies in motion.  My Mother was a member of the USOC.  Sport: she coached Sunchronized Swimming.  She didn’t take any of this very seriously.  But it was better than waitressing, which she was still doing at age 54, before she became, quite by serendipitious coincidentiality, the premier coach of Sync Swim in the world.

She was in Mexico during the ’68 Olympics and was disgusted with the killings of the poor and student protesters who were in the way.  She was in Munich with her team when Israeli atheletes were killed by … “da turroristsees!  And she was thrilled with the gloved fist protests of Carlos and Smith in Mexico ’68.

So, I agree with you, but I am about to commit the sin of watching the Olympics!

    See you soon.
